Upgrades to Cathedral Security Systems and Parking Lot Lighting |
On behalf of the Cathedral Chapter, I am happy to report that this week we began the process of upgrading and improving our Cathedral security systems and lighting in the parking lot. The following improvements will provide more security inside and outside the Cathedral building itself and will offer increased safety in our parking lot and exterior areas:
-
Burglar alarm system repairs and upgrade including the installation of new door sensors throughout the nave, motion detectors in the nave, panic buttons connected directly to Miami Police, and a monitoring contract with a new security company
-
Security camera system upgrade and improvements including replacement of obsolete cameras with new, high-definition cameras in the nave, sacristy, and office, as well as new cameras in the exterior areas (replacing those cameras which were removed with the demolition of the parish hall), plus the addition of a new NVR (Network Video Recorder) for video surveillance recording
-
Parking lot lighting repairs and improvements including the repairs of existing lighting in the 16th Street/northeast corner of the lot and repairs of the existing light pole in the 15th Street/southeast corner of the lot
-
Fire alarm system maintenance and upgrade including the replacement of backup batteries and regular system maintenance and monitoring with a new security company
These important upgrades will help to keep our entire Cathedral community safe as well as to ensure the safety of visitors and others who use our parking lot and our spaces for weddings and other events. These improvements also provide more safety each time we gather as a community on Sundays and Wednesdays for worship, and as clergy, staff, and volunteers work in and around the Cathedral throughout the week.
| |
Making these improvements in security and lighting is also a part of our larger, ongoing 40/50-year building recertification process. As we move closer to inspections with Miami-Dade County, we continue to work with electrical, structural, and lighting contractors and engineers to make sure the Cathedral is in compliance and all our systems are in good working order.
I am very grateful to all the members of the Cathedral Chapter and to Canon Lang Lowrey for their continued support in these important efforts. I want to especially thank Gladis Suarez who has done many hours of work to help us with the requests for proposals from several local security companies. Trinity Cathedral will now be an even safer and more secure place as we continue to grow our community and expand our ministries - thanks be to God!

Mission-Focused Stewardship for 2025 | |
Please pledge by December 1st! Our annual stewardship campaign in support of the mission and ministries of the Cathedral is ongoing. We have a goal to raise $400,000 in pledges for 2025 so we can continue to grow in faith and reflect God’s grace and love in the heart of Miami.
Next year, we will celebrate the centennial of our beautiful cathedral building. We have amazing plans to mark this historic occasion in 2025 for both our church and the wider community. These first 100 years would not have been possible without the generations of Miamians who built and maintained this building as a living symbol of Christian hope and God's love in Downtown Miami. Now, it is our turn to continue the tradition and lay the foundation for the next 100 years as the spiritual center of Miami.
Please pledge generously to support the vital mission of this Cathedral community. The printable 2025 Stewardship pledge form can be downloaded here.
New this year, you can now make your 2025 Pledge online using our new, secure application called REALM!

Food Pantry Ministry
These are difficult times and many struggle to make ends meet. When you come on Sundays, please consider bringing one or more items of canned or boxed food. Items to consider include canned goods, peanut butter, packaged cereals, paper products, bottled water, dish and laundry soaps, boxed dinners, toiletry items, and feminine hygiene products. Remember that we cannot accept expired food or items that need refrigeration.
Gift Card Ministry
The LGBTQ+ ministry has organized an on-going Gift Card collection drive to aid in the purchase of perishable food items for food pantry recipients. These cards are distributed on a weekly basis to families and individuals in need. To continue to help this cause or if you or someone you know could benefit from this ministry, please contact Roberto Soto at:

"Pews to Chairs" Project
There is still time to donate a chair!
For many decades now, pews have been replaced by chairs in countless cathedrals and churches across the Episcopal Church and the world with remarkable success. In many cases, it has allowed congregations to experience a transformation and rebirth of their communities. Stackable, multi-use chairs will give Trinity a fully flexible and multi-purpose space that functions not only for worship, but for a variety of ministry and community events. (See the above picture of Trinity's new cathedral chairs which arrived the week before Christmas.)
The success of Transforming Trinity and the Pews to Chairs project depends on the donation of chairs by cathedral parishioners, congregations, and individuals across The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida and the wider Church. Chairs may be donated in honor of or in memory of a loved one or in honor of a specific church, congregation, or organization. Please consider donating one or more chairs!
To donate: Please download the chair donation form HERE, complete it, and make your check payable to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Please make sure to write “Pews to Chairs” in the memo line. Mail checks and forms to: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
Online donations can also be made on the Cathedral website (www.trinitymiami.org) under the “Giving” tab – please be sure to choose the “Pews to Chairs Campaign” on the dropdown menu to designate your donation.
Please reach out to Father Jason by email at frjason@trinitymiami.org if you have any questions or concerns. You can also find more details about the Pews to Chairs project HERE.

How might you seek and serve those new to your community? How might you lend your voice and agency to those who are marginalized and oppressed?
| |
The experience of being a stranger, an exile, or a refugee is one faced by millions across the world. Daniel is widely known for his stay and deliverance from a lion’s den, but before the lions, Daniel was chosen to be educated and serve in the palace of the empire that conquered, exiled, and captured his people. Daniel had no agency, voice, or power, until God granted him visions and dreams, and the ability to interpret them. Daniel gained voice but had to navigate between those in power and honoring God and God’s commandments. Daniel bore the weight of knowing – knowing that God had and would deliver the Israelites and knowing that this deliverance would not come soon or without anguish. Like Daniel, many in our day are faithful and courageous, and still burdened physically, emotionally, and spiritually by unjust, oppressive systems. As Christians, we are called to love, serve, and respect the dignity of every human being. This is the work we are called to do, and we, like Daniel, carry the weight of knowing this work will continue until all things are made new.
