Missions of the Month

Little Free Food Pantry
The Little Free Food Pantry is located next to the Crossroads Building in the Poquoson Ave. Parking Lot.

The LFFP is to help people facing hunger or food insecurity with no questions asked. If you know of a family that could benefit from the LFFP, please let them know it moved.

You can drop off either monetary donations (marked LFFP) or food donations to the Poquoson Ave. doors Monday-Friday during office hours. If you do not want to make contact, you can ring the bell during office hours to get our attention. Thank you for your generous support of the LFFP.
Wondering How You Can
Help the People of Ukraine?
United Methodists and others wishing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people in the wake of the Russian invasion of their country may contribute to Advance #982450, UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery. This fund will provide direct assistance to those in Ukraine as well as assistance to Ukrainians fleeing to neighboring countries.

Gifts to support the people of Ukraine can be made in the following ways:
  • Online at https://umcmission.org/advance-project/982450
  • By toll free telephone: 888-252-6174
  • By check with “Advance #982450-Ukraine” written on the memo line, either mailed and addressed to Global Ministries/UMCOR, GPO, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY, 10087-9068 or given at or through any United Methodist church
One hundred percent of all Advance contributions go to the designated cause.
The United Methodist community in Ukraine, though quite small, is actively engaged in assisting neighbors in need. Global Ministries is in touch with the Church’s leadership as well as with church leaders in countries welcoming those who are fleeing from violence in Ukraine.
Thrift Shop Food Pantry
The Food Pantry at the Thrift Shop on Wythe Creek Rd. is open on Tuesdays & Fridays from 10:15AM to 12:30PM. Clients must have ID and use the entrance to the left of Mr. C’s Pizza.
 The Thrift Shop Food Pantry is accepting food donations again. You can drop your donations in the box in the Commons.

Monetary donations are also accepted: checks should be made out to The Parish Thrift Shop, Inc., and mailed to PO Box 2019, Poquoson 23662.

Maui Wildfires

Please continue to pray and stay updated on the wind-driven wildfires on Maui that have prompted evacuations and caused significant loss of life and widespread damage.

As of an August 14 update, UMCOR is coordinating with the California-Pacific Annual Conference to process an initial grant for emergency supplies such as shelf-stable food, water, hygiene items and tools to help survivors recover belongings as first responders continue to provide initial aid in the area.

Gifts can be made in the following ways:

    * Online at https://umcmission.org/advance-project/901670

    * By toll-free telephone call: 1-888-252-6174

    * By check made out to Global Ministries/UMCOR with “Advance #901670-Hawaii” written on the memo line and mailed to Global Ministries/UMCOR, GPO, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY, 10087-9068

    * By check made out to Global Ministries/UMCOR with “Advance #901670-Hawaii” written on the memo line and given to any United Methodist church.

As far as VIM (Volunteers in Mission) teams to Maui, it is still too earlier in the process for teams to be sent out. VAUMC's Disaster Response Coordinator Rev. Bob Pihlcrantz shared that recovery efforts are still underway to recover the deceased. When this changes, the VAUMC will be notified conference-wide.
