Message from Bryan "in the Interim"
On the way to Easter

Dear fellow travelers at Trinity,

We’re almost there! Or at least we are almost to Easter. While our Holy Week services are a bit diminished this year, I hope you’ll join us for our Zoom Good Friday service this evening at 7 pm. We’ll hear the Passion according to John interspersed with verses from “Were you there?”; listen to a musical offering from prepared by John, Kate, and David; and join Jesus in his prayer for the world.

Then comes Sunday, and our second opportunity to pray together both in-person and on Zoom. Our in-person service will include communion, though (alas) we cannot yet sing together.

John will, however, provide us with music to “hum” our praise. Our Zoom service will include our Easter hymns so we can sing freely at home. At both services, we will give thanks for Christ our Light and renew the promises of our baptism. At the in-person service, we will light candles of our own from the Easter Candle and be sprinkled with baptismal water. We will do the same on Zoom, so please bring a candle and some water to remember your baptism.

Even though our COVID restrictions leave us in a “Holy Saturday” between moment, Easter reminds us that we can have confidence that new life is just on the other side. May we find God’s presence in all the moments from Good Friday to Easter Sunday and the season beyond.

Blessings in these holy days,

Bryan

Book Club to Discuss Film

The next book club discussion on April 21 at 6:30 p.m. is not about a book but a film!

The name of the film is St. Frances. It is the story of a nanny and the precocious six-year-old she is hired to care for. What makes this film even more special is that Diane and Greg Beckway are Executive Producers! We look forward to Diane's insider information about the movie and the cast.

You can find the movie on:
  • Amazon Prime - $4.99
  • Starz - Free
  • Hulu Premium - Free
  • iTunes - $4.99 rent

Help Us Celebrate Tri-Con's 50th

The second week of March marked Tri-Con Child Care Center's 50th year of service to the community. To celebrate, please send them a birthday or anniversary card and/or donate books to Trinity's book drive for the Tri-Con students. See below for information about the books and how to donate.

The books for Tri-Con should be new or extremely gently used and appropriate for boys and/or girls between the ages of 3 and 6. Please drop off or send your donation of books to Diane Beckway at 1376 St. John’s Ave., Highland Park, IL. 60035. If you prefer, send a check to Trinity. Make it payable to Trinity Church and please mention “Tri-Con books” on the memo line; it may be mailed to 425 Laurel Ave., Highland Park IL 60035. The book committee will gladly do the shopping.

Thank you!

Scripture Study Meets Saturday Mornings

Please join us on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. (2 p.m. UTC) on Zoom for our Scripture Study.

Participants take turns facilitating prayer and reflection on any or all of the current Sunday's lectionary readings, which are available at https://www.lectionarypage.net  (We use Track 1, if there is a choice.)

Weekly facilitators choose any or all of the readings and simply come prepared with a few wonderings or questions (not "quizzes") based on their selected scriptures to stimulate reflection--including questions they feel they cannot satisfactorily answer. Beyond that, leaders may prepare as little or as much as desired and employ whatever props or helps they wish.

(In case you missed it, our Saturday Scripture Study ceased being a "men's group" about a year ago; all are welcome.)
