Message from Bryan "in the Interim"
Take Time to Take Rest

Dear fellow travelers at Trinity,

Of all the things Jesus says in the four gospels, one of the more surprising (to me anyway) is in our reading for this Sunday: “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest awhile.”

I do appreciate a teacher who encourages us to take vacations! Given our American society’s tendency to overwork (and to praise people who do so), I sometimes wonder if we Christians, along with our Jewish siblings and friends, should emphasize “keeping sabbath” a bit more. We might also make an effort to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to rest and recreate, especially after this last 16 months (and still continuing) of stress, difficulty, and grief related to COVID-19.

I will be taking my own bit of rest and vacation through much of August, including part of the first week, and the last two. (Details are below this message.) I’m lumping it all together to prepare for what will be a busy start to the “program year” after Labor Day, when we will be even more actively engaging the interim process and making some concrete decisions about next steps for Trinity. (More to come on that!) In the meantime, if there is anything that needs attention from me in the short term, please email or call and/or text me.

I hope everyone is finding their own bit of sabbath this summer.

Bryan
To Keep in Prayer

We received a call from Mother Mindy, a priest in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, that long-time parishioner Marilou Haight is receiving hospice care. Please keep Marilou and her spouse, Al, in prayer. If you would like to send a card, their Wisconsin address is in the parish directory.

Scripture Study Meets Saturday Mornings

Please join us on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. (2 p.m. UTC) on Zoom for our Scripture Study.

Participants take turns facilitating prayer and reflection on any or all of the current Sunday's lectionary readings, which are available at https://www.lectionarypage.net  (We use Track 2, if there is a choice.)

Weekly facilitators choose any or all of the readings and simply come prepared with a few wonderings or questions (not "quizzes") based on their selected scriptures to stimulate reflection--including questions they feel they cannot satisfactorily answer. Beyond that, leaders may prepare as little or as much as desired and employ whatever props or helps they wish.

Virtual Gala Planned for Fall

Hello Dear Trinity Friends:

The Vestry voted to hold a Virtual Gala this fall (date TBD). This will be a very different take on our traditional Gala venue and requires some creative thinking on the part of the Gala Committee. If anyone is interested in serving on the Gala Committee (a few of the former members are returning), we would love to have you! Please contact Cynthia Wolpert at cynthia.wolpert@gmail.com if you are interested in being a part of this amazing committee!

Thank you.
