Trinity Messenger

April 9, 2025

Hello beloved Trinity,

I am so grateful to be back with you all starting Monday, April 7th at the end of my maternity leave. Matilda is growing and a joy to be around – you will all get to meet her at a Sunday service soon.

Thank you very much for the support we have received during this time, particularly the meal train. The promise of a solid meal at the end of a long day was such a gift in the early days!

I am also incredibly grateful for the support of our wardens, vestry, lay ministers, and staff, as well as our supply clergy Marilyn and Evelyn who kept this parish thriving and connected in my absence.

Starting this Sunday is Holy Week, the high point in our church year as we gather together to walk the last days of Jesus on earth and celebrate the mystery of his resurrection. We will be welcoming some visitors during this week and you are encouraged to invite friends, family, neighbors, and strangers to worship as well.

Joining us on Good Friday will be the congregation of All Saints with Christ in Oakville and Canon Ranjit K. Mathews (our Canon to the Ordinary) as preacher.

On Saturday night for the Easter Vigil we will have our friends from Oakville again, with Bishop Laura Ahrens as preacher. The Easter Vigil is a traditional time to have baptisms, and Bishop Laura will baptize Matilda and anyone else who wishes it at this time. If you are interested in being baptized, confirmed, received into the Episcopal Church, or renewing your baptismal vows at the Vigil, please be in touch with me (clergy@trinity-torrington.org or 860 880 0414).

As I settle back into the routine at Trinity, I ask that you please be proactive about getting in touch if there is something we need to talk about. Otherwise, I will be reaching out after Easter and look forward to reconnecting with you all.

In peace,

Mtr. Carrie

Participate in Holy Week Services!

We have a number of ways to get involved in our Holy Week services that can be filled by anyone, of any ability. We are looking for readers, intercessors, greeters, and other folks to be involved. Some of the jobs require speaking (like readers), while others are silent (like helping carry the cross on Good Friday).

There will be sign-up sheets out during Coffee Hour this Sunday (4/13), or you can email Mtr. Carrie (clergy@trinity-torrington.org ) with the job you’d like.

Here’s a link to what we need: 2025 Holy Week Jobs.docx

A big THANK YOU to the Rev. Evelyn Wheeler, our supply clergy for the last several weeks.

We enjoyed working and celebrating with you!

WELCOME BACK

MOTHER CARRIE!

Men's Breakfast will be held on Saturday April 26 at 9am at the Twin Colony Diner in Torrington.

We enjoy food and fellowship, bookended with short prayer.

(Normally this breakfast is held the third Saturday of the month, but we changed it for April.)

Contact Conrad with questions.

Please consider signing up for Coffee Hour. The sign-up is in the Upper Parish Hall during Coffee Hour.

You are invited to attend John Brown's Birthday party! This is a great opportunity to salute Torrington's native son and to join in fellowship with members of the Workman Memorial AME Zion Church.

Fun Fact: members of the Workman family worshipped here at Trinity and were known for two very significant donations - the impressive baptismal font at Trinity, and the land for the Workman Memorial AME Zion Church on Brightwood Avenue.

Not familiar with John Brown? Click here to read his entry in Wikipedia.

Questions about the event? Contact Conrad.

EMAIL SCAM ALERT!

A Trinity parishioner recently received an email saying it was Mother Carrie asking for gift cards for cancer patients.

This was not from Mother Carrie.

The email address from which it was sent did not reflect Mother Carrie's, which is clergy@trinity-torrington.org.

Please do not be fooled by this scam.

If you receive an email that seems suspicious, take a look at the email address - it might say it's from a name you recognize, but the actual email address may be very different from the real person's actual email address.

Read the suspicious email carefully, as it may contain phrases that are awkward or unusual, and possibly have poor grammar (some scammers are from other countries). There may also be a sense of urgency, asking you to reply quickly. These are all warning signs of a suspicious email - do not reply to them.

If you are still unsure if the email is legitimate, you can reach out to the person you think it's from by starting a new email, or by calling or texting them, to confirm that the email is really from them. DO NOT REPLY to the suspicious email, as of course they will say it is really them.

The seasonal shelter being run by the Northwest CT

Y in the Upper Parish Hall will come to an end in

mid-April.

They say the last mile is the hardest mile, so please keep the staff and guests in your prayers.

Torrington Community Gardens

The 2025 planting season is just around the corner! The Torrington Community Garden (one of Trinity’s outreach missions) has garden plots available at our University Drive site. There is a minimum price to rent a plot. Plus, since it is all volunteer and a community plot, certain tasks need to be assigned.

Grow your own veggies and flowers and get fresh air exercise in the bargain! With the prices of everything going up, now is a great time to grow your own.

For more information call the Church Office at 860 482-6027 or email Ann Bott at 56bott@gmail.com or call her on her cell: 860-485-5022.

Camp Washington Events

Chanted Evening Prayer is held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Litchfield on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 pm in their Chapel. This service includes sung psalms, a reading from the Gospel, and the opportunity to ask prayers for your concerns.

All are welcome to participate or just listen.

For details, contact St. Michael's at (860) 567-9467.

If you have an announcement or event that you would like publicized, or if you are a parishioner involved in an event that you would like to share with the parish, please send it to The Portal at announcements@trinity-torrington.org, and we can then direct your announcement to the best method of communication.
