Trinity Messenger

October 28, 2024

Trinity Church was saddened to learn that Mary Rolfe (widow of George Rolfe) passed away on October 26. She was a long-time parishioner here at Trinity Church, and a friend to many.

As soon as we learn of her funeral arrangements, we will share those details. Please keep Mary and her family in your prayers.

Creator of all, we pray to you for Mary, and all those we love, but see no longer. Grant them your peace, let light perpetual shine upon them, and in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the good purpose of your perfect will, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2024 All Saints' Sunday Memorial List

This upcoming Sunday, November 3rd, is All Saints' Sunday where we remember the saints of our faith as well as those saints among us who have gone ahead to glory. As part of this service, we read aloud the names of those we have lost in the preceding year. If you have a name to be remembered, please call or email the office (admin@trinity-torrington.org) before Friday, 11/1, to have the name printed in the service leaflet. We will also hold space on Sunday morning for additional names to be added verbally.

Please join us for a Saint Kateri Holy Hike on Sunday November 3. We will meet in the Trinity Parking lot at noon to carpool to Sunnybrook Park on Newfield Road in Torrington. We will take the Blue Trail to see Testone Boulder, an impressive erratic nestled in the woods.

The hike is easy but does involve crossing a shallow brook (see photo below with Sirius Black by the brook), so a hiking stick is recommended for balance on the rocks. This hike should take about 60 to 90 minutes.

All are welcome, even leashed dogs! Wear proper shoes and bring a bottle of water. Meet at the Trinity parking lot at noon to carpool, or meet us at 12:15 at Sunnybrook State parking lot on Newfield Road in Torrington.

2024 Election Resources & Events

“Loving God, guide us through this election as a nation, state, and community as we vote for people to do work on our behalf and on the behalf of our communities. Help us to vote for people and ballot initiatives that will better our community and our world so it may reflect the values Christ taught us.” ~Excerpt, Prayers of the People for an Election

ECCT's Bishops and Canons have compiled some resources to support you during election times, which you can find on the diocesan website here: https://www.episcopalct.org/advocacy-racial-justice-and-reconciliation/2024-election-resources/

Although some of these programs have already passed, many have been recorded and are available to view at your leisure.

Recording of “Let’s Get Our Affairs in Order” Now Available

September’s presentation on “Let’s Get Our Affairs in Order,” featuring an attorney, funeral home director, and two of your favorite Episcopal priests, is now available to view on YouTube. If you missed it, or want to review anything from it, you can do so at your leisure. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLFx95GXDpk

If you have any follow up questions about the presentation, contact specialministries@trinity-torrington.org and we can get you in touch with the right people.

The recording of the next presentation in the series, “Bring Me Home Again,” presented by the State Police Department, will be available soon.

I would like to help you help a family in need at Susan B. Anthony Project for this upcoming holiday by collecting gift cards (that Trinity Church will benefit from as well) and gifts, if you would like.

We need to sign up by November 8th - our baby's 37th birthday!

Please let me know if you want to be part of this. I will post a sign up at the Kiosk. You can tell me at church Coffee Hour or email me at fayetway@gmail.com.

Depending on how many commit to this project will determine how many families we at Trinity can 'adopt' for the holiday season.

Peace,

Faye

A NEW FORMATION SERIES STARTS ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 10!

We will be starting a new formation series on Sunday, November 10, on the Sermon on the Mount or the Beatitudes. We will use Following the Call: Living the Sermon on the Mount Together, edited by Charles E. Moore, as a springboard for our discussions. Following the Call is a collection of short meditations on various aspects of the Beatitudes by a range of theologians and Christian thinkers such writers as Augustine St. Francis of Assissi, Henri Nouen, Dorothy Sayers, Dorothy Day, Meister Eckhart, Soren Kierkegaard, and many others.

We are currently scheduled for November 10, November 17, and December 8, and will decide at that point as a group if we'd like to continue with this series. On November 10, we will introduce the Sermon, look at the book Following the Call, and talk about the first meditation, "Jesus as a Master Teacher." We hope you can join us!

St. Paul's Lutheran Church is located at 837 Charles Street, Torrington.

Men's Breakfast will be held on Saturday November 16 at 9am at Twin Colony Diner in Torrington. Join us for prayer, breakfast, and conversation.

Bacon optional but encouraged.

Holy Cross Monastery

Looking for a quiet restful place for a weekend, where you can unplug, enjoy the silence, and hear God a little better? Consider Holy Cross Monastery, a guesthouse run by an Anglican Benedictine community of brothers in West Park, New York, just a 90-minute drive from Torrington. Conrad and Lydia will be there January 17 through 19, and they would love to see other folks from Trinity, too.

The guesthouse is located on the Hudson River. It has single rooms and lots of places to quietly read, pray, craft, write, puzzle, and more. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, too - the food is amazing! You can join the brothers for daily mass and prayer (with chanting four times a day) - or not. You can also explore the area on foot or by car.

See Conrad or Lydia if you have questions.

If you have an announcement or event that you would like publicized, or if you are a parishioner involved in an event that you would like to share with the parish, please send it to The Portal at announcements@trinity-torrington.org, and we can then direct your announcement to the best method of communication.
