Scripture Fest: Reading and Living the Bible
Saturday, March 8, 9am-1pm
How do we read scripture? Is reading the Bible unique, or is it like reading a novel or a poem? Do we need to approach scripture differently than we would any other text? And does the Bible make claims on our lives and actions that are fundamentally unique?
These are some of the questions we hope to address in this workshop, kicking off our Wednesday Lenten series on reading the Bible. Our guide for the day will be Gary Hall—former Trinity interim rector and retired seminary and literature professor. In a series of brief talks and group discussions, Gary will explore the many kinds of literature that make up the Bible and will invite us to respond to sacred text with the same skills and questions we employ when reading poetry, fiction, drama, and prose. We’ll also look at some poems and see how they amplify our sense of the sacred. The hope is that, spending the day together this way, we’ll be equipped not only to read scripture but to bring its grace and beauty to work in the fullness of our daily lives. Please register here so we can plan accordingly.

Lenten Series: Reading and Living the Bible
Wednesday Evenings: March 12, 19, 26, April 2, and 9
Join us on the five Wednesdays in Lent from 6:30 to 8:30pm, to continue our exploration of reading scripture using the same kinds of approaches and questions as when we read other kinds of literature, especially poetry.
In anticipation of Holy Week and Easter, the scriptures we'll be looking at will include some we hear at the Easter Vigil service, including one of the resurrection gospels. Each evening, there will be time for personal reflection, sharing, and group discussion. Snacks (not dinner) will be part of the evening, so please plan accordingly. NOTE: Even if you're not able to attend the Saturday, March 8 workshop, we hope you'll attend the Wednesday night gatherings. Although we'll draw on the information Gary Hall presents at the workshop, we promise you won't feel lost or behind. Please register here so we can plan seating and materials accordingly.

Message from Bishop John Harvey Taylor
Dear Beloved in Christ,
As Episcopalians, our baptismal covenant call to respect the dignity of every human being requires us to stand up and speak out whenever the dignity of any of our siblings is threatened—and this is one of those moments.
In this challenging time in our nation’s history, we write to reaffirm this fundamental truth: transgender and non-binary folk are beloved by God. No earthly power can separate them from that love, and their gender identity and expression are sacred gifts to our church, our nation and our world. Their presence deepens our capacity for love, justice and compassion.
