Church Happenings

Our Shandon congregation in Columbia has a history of participating in and providing funding for programs designed to help provide food for those in need in their community. They continue that tradition by supporting these six local hunger-related programs:
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Washington St. UMC Soup Cellar
  • Weekend Backpack Food Program
  • Seeds of Hope
  • Harvest Hope Food Bank
  • Transitions (volunteers serve the evening meal monthly the 1st Sunday of the month).

We know many of our churches in Trinity Presbytery have mission and ministries that are impacting their congregations, communities and the world. Why not share your stories with other churches? Send your stories to Lisa Mallory.

Do You Remember
Camp Montreat for Girls?
Camp Montreat for Girls, in operation from 1924 to 1967, was  a Montreat institution described by Robert Anderson in his history of Montreat as "one of the finest Christian influences  in Montreat."  It was operated by Montreat College and girls from Kansas to North Carolina and New York to Florida attended Camp Montreat in the summer for four or eight weeks.
We would like to create a display at the Presbyterian Heritage Center in Montreat commemorating this special place that meant so much to so many young women.
If you were a camper or staff member at Camp Montreat, or know someone who was, we would like to hear from you. We are collecting memorabilia such as memory books, navy scarfs, photos, camp newsletters, Indian blankets/regalia, programs, etc.  If  you have things from the camp, or stories about the camp, please contact:

Reconciliation. How do I reconcile with one whose ideas differ from mine, or one who 'makes me mad', or one who has been discourteous, or one who has used firearms against me?
Find out Oct 3-11, 2018. The Peacemaking Committee of Trinity Presbytery will welcome Peace Worker, Michael Muot Put Ruai to our p resbytery as part of the PC (USA) International Peace Worker initiative.
The primary focus is to learn about reconciliation between divergent groups; how to consider our thoughts and actions regarding someone with whom we disagree - sometimes violently.  There will be opportunities to visit with and hear the stories of Michael Ruai, who works with traumatized Youth in South Sudan, Presbyterian Church of South Sudan.
How can your congregation enjoy Michael during his 8-day stay? Invite a group to gather for lunch or breakfast with him at your facility or a restaurant. Have a covered dish dinner, afternoon tea/coffee, or a recreational activity. Our goal is to schedule one or two gatherings in each of the five clusters.

Can you help with transportation or overnight hosting?
Please contact the Trinity Presbytery Peacemaking committee to schedule a time. Trish Sargent 803-665-8332 or
