Inscribed August 1, 1889 Immanuel Church of Shillington, this bell was presented as a gift from the Union Sunday School class. It called the community together for worship and fellowship when the church was on New Holland Ave. Now the Carillon in the steeple of the church on Waverly St rings twice a day as a reminder of God's abiding presence - just as our name Immanuel - "God with Us" proclaims.
Recently, a teacher from Governor Mifflin Intermediate School sent a note which included:
"For 44 years now I've been listening to our church bells ring.... Every time I hear the Church bells ring, I think back.
Every time I hear the Church bells ring, it brings me Peace".
She recalls hearing it on the sidelines of Bronco games, as a cheerleader of the GM Mustangs, and now when her students are outside on break.
May we continue to be a uniting presence in our community, offering peace and hope-filled presence.
