“You are above us, O Trinity of Love,

You are beneath

You are in air

You are in earth

You are beside us

You are within.

O God of heaven,

You have made your home on earth

in the broken body of Creation.

Kindle within us

a love for you in all things."

J. Philip Newell, Celtic Prayers from Iona, adapted

Dear People of Ascension,

On Trinity Sunday, we celebrate both the mystery of God the three in one and the intimacy of God who draws us into a deepening relationship of love and interdependence. Our first lesson for this Sunday is the Creation story from Genesis 1, and it strikes me that consideration of the Trinity often includes the wonders of creation as well. Maybe it is because in the mystery of the Triune God we are invited into both vastness and particularity.

The Trinity is a doctrine, of course, but it is first an attempt by our forebears in faith to speak however haltingly about their experience of the divine. And this is a feast that begins with theology but moves into wonder, praise and even dance.

How do you think and speak of God? May this feast kindle love in you, and adventure, and play.

Liz

Do you like to color? Especially for children and their families- we have copies of “the Sunday Paper” a cartoon version of our gospel each Sunday, along with crayons and clipboards available from the ushers. Please ask for one if your child would enjoy this during the service.

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion

If you are attending any of our services online, we invite you to use this prayer at communion.

In union, O Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church, where the Holy Eucharist is now being celebrated, I desire to offer to you praise and thanksgiving. I remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your coming in glory. Since I cannot receive you today in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood, I beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus, and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

Immigration Legal Support Fund – Recently our diocese announced a new Immigration Legal Support Fund to support immigrant families in our congregations and neighborhoods throughout the Diocese of New York. The Legal Fund will help those navigating immigration under urgent and vulnerable circumstances to access legal resources. We're starting with a $50,000 contribution from the Bishop’s discretionary funds. Help us to match this amount to keep families together. With your support, we can do more so that no one faces the system alone. Your contribution makes possible same-day response, family preparedness, limited-scope appearances, and urgent filings. You can contribute here. To learn more about the Immigration Legal Support Fund Click here.

Your Pantry Needs You!

Ascension Outreach Inc. needs additional volunteer participation. The program is robust and developing in some great ways- and we need more hands-on help. Won’t you consider helping strengthen our service to our neighbors?
