Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
What is the "great replacement?"
In short, the "great replacement" is a conspiracy theory that states that nonwhite individuals are being brought into the United States and other Western countries to "replace" white voters to achieve a political agenda. It is often touted by anti-immigration groups, white supremacists and others, according to the National Immigration Forum.
White supremacists argue that the influx of immigrants, people of color more specifically, will lead to the extinction of the white race.

How can we Imagine the World Getting Better?
A key belief of some about the climate crisis is that it’s an imagination crisis and a storytelling crisis. Too often we've been told that what it requires of us is austerity, renunciation, sacrifice. But it requires building a better world, being rich in ways that are often not acknowledged: in stability, confidence in the future, a more equal world when fossil fuel oligarchs and mega-corporations are things of the past. What are some ways you can imagine the world getting better if we do what the climate needs from us? For example, some of the challenging emotions we feel about the climate come from commonly held frameworks about how change works, where power resides, what possibility looks like. The future is not inevitable. It will come into being as a result of the decisions we make now.

THE PASTOR IS OUT, BUT THE REST OF US ARE STILL IN!
|
"Pastor Is In" has been renamed "Pastor Is Out" for the duration of Jill’s sabbatical. Join us at 12 noon every Wednesday on Zoom. It is a meet and greet started during the pandemic and continuing because we like it.
We just catch up with each other sharing our week and what’s ahead.
Sometimes we talk about current events when something has been impactful. Or someone’s upcoming wedding, work, a joy or a concern. Definitely not therapy. But a supportive friend group.
