Trustees' Update

The Trustees last met on January 11. Topics of discussion were the recent inventory, purchase of a new lawnmower for the Parsonage, requirements for a video security system and a new computer for the Pastor.

The Trustees have met with representatives from Easter Seals, Volusia County Schools and their respective attorneys, all working toward a smooth transfer of ownership of our Trinity Learning Center. We will remain the lessor of the space.  We also discussed disposition of surplus Learning Center items and relocation of the nursery.  We may need to do some tree trimming and modifications to the south parking lot to meet requirements for the program.

Thanks to Bill Hartman for his recent work on the Sanctuary door and to Steve Roland who repaired the water heater for the kitchen. I would like to give a special thanks to Rick Jones for his hard work on the inventory and countless other things that he does behind the scenes all the time.

A reminder that the district leadership training takes place on Saturday February 2nd in Oviedo. All trustees have been encouraged to attend.

We w ish you all a safe and blessed February.

Charlie Daniels, Chair
Our Telephone System is...

Currently the telephone system at Trinity is not working but it should be up and running on Tuesday, February 7th. Because of all the problems we were encountering, we had to purchase a new system which will handle all of our current needs and can be expanded in the future. The company we selected to purchase and install the new system has assured us that it will easily transfer to our new facility.

In case of an emergency please email me at [email protected]. For all other staff, contact them by email or their cell phones. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

To the Congregation of Trinity UMC:

This is a little late, but I wanted to make sure you knew how much the sneakers you gave to my son are appreciated. This was such a wonderful gesture.Thank you so much.He was definitely in need of new shoes and he loves the new ones (he's kind of picky).

Thanks again.

Trinity Music News

Music Makers is seeking 2nd through 5th graders for our spring production!  "The Tale of Three Trees" is the story of three trees who aspired to do great things.  The trees end up doing great things, but not quite what they had planned.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Feb. 27 th from 2:30-4:30 p.m.  The musical production will be Sunday, May 21 st at both worship services. See Conya Hartman for more information.
______________________________________

Speaking of musical productions...

On Saturday, February 25th at 4 p.m., come hear our  fabulous music director, Conya Hartman, along with some of her very talented friends (including our own Bob and Anne Sollien!) present a program of Broadway show tunes and other crowd-pleasing favorites. The benefit concert will raise funds to support women's scholarship programs through P.E.O.

A donation of $5 per person will be taken at the door. Plan now to bring your friends and neighbors to this fun, uplifting event! For more information, contact Conya.
Building Committee Update

We have selected a civil engineer who will be responsible for drafting plans for site preparation of our Plymouth Avenue property.

Bob Kellogg, Dave Griffis and I have met with the engineer and reached an agreement. He is going to discount the price a little bit more in consideration of Dave Griffis doing some of the work, gratis. (Thanks, Dave!) Bob Kellogg is arranging for the necessary survey work (topography, boundary, and tree). Dave was able to convince the county to allow us to do a statistical sampling of trees, which should result in significant costs savings.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Remember, Fifth Sundays are special at Trinity!

In 2017, there will be five Fifth Sundays in the months of January, April, July, October and December. And, if you didn't already know, we will be combining both services on those Sundays and precede each with a spectacular brunch, as only our Kitchen Team can serve up.

What a wonderful tradition we have started! Circle your calendars on those dates and make plans to join us. Better yet, invite your friends and neighbors to one of our Fifth Sunday Brunch & Worship Services. (It's the best, proven way of getting new folks to visit. And who knows? They might just like it enough to come back!)
My Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I hope and pray all is well with you, your families and all GOD has entrusted to you. We have just made it through the month of January in what seems to be record time! As I get older and experience the passing of time which seems to increase exponentially with every breath I take, I become more and more determined to make the most of my time here on earth, to make sure I am doing the best with my time. How about you? I have a specific suggestion for you but this newsletter is packed with many suggestions on how to best make the most of your time this month.
This coming Sunday, February 5th, is a national holiday for many as this certain HUGE football game takes place on this Sunday each year. For us here at Trinity this Sunday is known as the Super Goal Sunday as we plan on setting an attendance record for the year on this Sunday. For that to happen we will have to more than double our normal attendance. That isn't just going to happen by itself. First, we should pray for our church and for those folks God would have us invite and bring with us on that day! Then, we should take steps today, even now, to make contact with those beloved persons. Emails and phone calls are nice but personal, face-to-face contact is always better. If you can, go and see those people, let them know what they mean to you and let them know what Trinity means to you and how you would just love to see them come together.
Our worship schedule will be the same as it is most Sundays. We will have two worship services at 8:30 and 11:00. We invite you to wear your favorite sports teams' jerseys on that day. It will be fun to see just which team (professional, collegiate or high school) will be most represented. There may even be prizes involved... Between the two services beginning around 9:30 a.m. we will have a major blow-out, tailgate party for our Fellowship Hour which just may be the most important time of the entire morning! We will get the chance to really fellowship and build relationships with each other and our esteemed guests during the "Super Goal Tailgating Fellowship Hour" that morning. We will certainly have food here but if you want to bring your favorite tailgate or half-time snacks please do!
Sunday, February 5th, is also the Super Bowl of Caring Sunday for churches all over the United States when they take up special offerings to give to local charities. An idea birthed at a youth group at a church in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1990 led to 22 churches raising more than $5,000. Since then thousands of youth groups have led their churches in raising more than $ 100,000,000 for local charities in their own neighborhoods! Come prepared to give to Super Bowl of Caring also on February 5th. May we in partnership with the Holy Spirit make Sunday, February 5th, 2017 an historic, never-to-be-forgotten day by the way we respond to God's love and presence in our lives by inviting and bringing others with us to encounter God's love and presence also. I look forward to seeing you here this Sunday to celebrate Super Goal Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church! May GOD richly bless you as you richly bless all those around you by living, loving and leading like Jesus!

Worship Team News

Don't forget! This Sunday will be our first Super Goal Sunday and we are asking all members to personally (intentionally) invite a close friend or neighbor to come to church with you. We hope to have standing room only at both services!

And, to ensure our guests have a memorable time, we are planning to host a Fellowship Hour at 9:30 a.m. like no other. It will be just like a tailgate party. Wear your favorite team jerseys, bring your pom-poms and come join in the fun. We want to meet your friends and let them know how much we appreciate them coming and why Trinity is considered to be "one of the friendliest congregations in DeLand!"

The Worship Team will meet Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the library.

Ushers
We are currently looking for individuals or couples willing to serve as ushers at the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Volunteer ushers will be asked to serve for a month during the year and can choose a preferable month. Training will be done outside of a worship service. If this is an area in which you feel called to serve, contact Conya Hartman.

Altar Flower Calendar
The 2017 Altar Flower Calendar is now posted in the Fellowship Hall. Arrangements are $25 each and there are quite a few dates still open. Reserve your special dates as a way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or in honor/memory of someone.

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday service will be held on Wednesday, March 1st in the Sanctuary beginning at 6 p.m.
Check your bulletins, the March newsletter and our online calendar for the Easter Holy Week schedule.

And finally, last Sunday, Trinity's Chancel Choir, directed by Conya Hartman, sang a beautiful arrangement of the time-honored hymn, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing". Accompanied by Larry Graham on the piano and featuring a solo by Bob Sollien, the hymn seemed to touch every heart for it was followed by well-deserved applause. We are so blessed to have such a talented choir, organist/pianist and music director to lead our worship services at Trinity, amen?!

INTENTIONAL DISCIPLING & EVANGELISM
MORE NEWS FROM EVANGELISM

We recently ordered two lots of blue polo shirts featuring Trinity's name and the cross-flame logo. The shirts were given to members of the Administrative Council and other leaders in the church with instructions to wear them to events  out and about in the community. We are now asking for feedback from those who have been wearing them before ordering another lot.

We are in the process of identifying people to prepare and train for a new prayer ministry. The ministry will provide individuals to pray with clients of Faith Partners' Ministry and Breakfast at Trinity gatherings. Both programs continue to draw larger numbers and the prayer ministry will go far to build on good relationships with people from the local community.

If you are interested in either of these opportunities, contact us.
