Fall 2022 Worship Series: Searching for the Sacred
The way we see the world, relate to the world, live in the world and with each other has theological roots. In other words, what we believe about the holy, what we think is “sacred” or not, determines how we treat each other and creation.

Being here is sacred Steve Garnass-Holmes
I do not walk among these trees to learn
or become wise, or figure things out,
but simply to be here,
and not (even in my head) elsewhere,
to root myself in this present moment
with roots that go deep, hold, and draw water,
and where I am standing, with this breath,
to find myself in Divine Presence.
I gather myself until I am all here,
and all Creation gathers, all Creation meets me.
Step by step, under oak or pine, crab or beech,
among wet grasses or exultant blueberry bushes,
I am here,
and now I am here,
and that—no thing or thought—
is sacred.

Mission Core Report
Our participation in the Religious Leaders United “Farmer’s Market Gleanings Project” has been a success! We’ll be completing our obligation this coming Saturday, October 1st from 11:45 – 1:30.
The Market will officially end on Saturday, October 15th, and it has been a very successful year. Early weeks were a bit on the sparse side due to bad weather and growing conditions, but recent weeks there has been an abundance of everything except sweet corn.
Thanks to Todd and Harriet, who spent a few hours volunteering on our scheduled Saturdays! One more to go!
I would love to have you experience what it is like to accept the generous donations from the vendors, have some folks come and do their “shopping”, then deliver the remaining fresh produce to the end users at One Deerfield Placer, come join us!
We’re located right next to the Village’s Farmer’s Market trailer!
Your three Mission teams have begun their joint effort of collecting donations for the West Deerfield Township Pantry!
The “Donation Station” bin is located to the left of the entry doors of the Gathering Space, and we’ll be making deliveries to the Pantry as often as the bin is filled.
Please notice that, in addition to canned goods and dry foods, there are other items needed.
One final item – The Great Central U.S. Shakeout will take place Thursday, October 20th at 10:20 AM. The entire 60,000 members of the Illinois Conference are enrolled!

This preparedness exercise is simple: In the event of an earthquake, you should:
DROP to the floor,
ROLL under a sturdy piece of furniture (desk or table)
COVER your head with your arms.
If you are in a situation that does not allow you to do that, look around and identify some item of furniture under which you can hide, while covering your head with your arms.
If there is no furniture, move to the corner of the room. Do NOT stand in a doorway!

The need for diapers continues!
In past years, our Diaper Drive benefitted the women’s shelter of the Evanston YWCA.
For reasons that were not made public, the Evanston Y no longer needs diapers.
As you might imagine, Evanston is not the only place where diapers are needed!
Our “Diaper Contact Person” Mrs. Kathy Tschaen, has provided us with information and a brochure from “WINGS”, another local organization that operates both emergency shelters for women and their children who are escaping a situation of violence, and long-term housing for victims of violence who are rebuilding their lives.

We’ll collect from:
Sunday October 30 - Sunday November 13, 2022
Place your donation in the Gathering Room

As we all have heard, food pantries are experiencing a significant increase in the number of families who depend on local pantries as their primary source of food.
After some deliberation, and prayer, I am suggesting that Trinity United Church of Christ expand our annual program of collecting canned and dry foods for the West Deerfield Township Pantry from a few weeks’ duration to a continuous ministry.
The collection bin is in the Gathering Hall, with identifying signage. We will make a once-a-month delivery to the West Deerfield Township Pantry. The quantity, on a monthly basis, may not be as large as our once-a-year amount, but our goal is to assist the WDT Pantry maintain a more stable inventory, and have the ‘best-used-by date’ be more current.
