ADVENT 1
Seed

Hold this seed in your hand
its durable wisdom
knowing all it does
how to wait
how to endure
how to become
how to accept confining soil
winter’s abandonment
cruelty of all darkness.
Night and day
cold and thaw relentless
promising withholding.
In grip of ice or fire
time digestion and
whatever may be called suffering
nevertheless
holding within
its bare moment
(hold it in your hand
your mind
the deep soil of your Being)
what it has been given
furled infinite
irrepressible
a word   a world   a blessing
already
here
waiting

ANNOUNCEMENT RECEIVED WITH SADNESS & CONGRATULATIONS

Our Council President, Kim Parpala and I received the following email this week:
Mon, Nov 21, 12:39 PM

Hi Pastor Dale and Kim,
I wanted to reach out to let you know I’ve made a difficult decision—with so much happening in my life in recent months, I decided to step down from the music position at the church, effective end of year.

I’d hoped to catch you in person yesterday, but with so many things going on, it’s tough to find the right time, and I didn’t want to interrupt other conversations or activities. I know you are both juggling a lot of priorities.
I had mentioned to one or two folks in prior months that I’ve had two promotions this year at work—one was expected but the more recent not so much. Career-wise I feel really lucky to have these opportunities, so it’s a good thing overall, but my available time is significantly curtailed, even from what it was late summer. I’m not able to review/select music and practice sufficiently, and I think this will continue for the foreseeable future. (The transition associated with my mom and the ongoing home renovation [arrrgg] are relatively temporary, but they’re contributing factors.)
I hope you’ll excuse the quick email, but I didn’t want to hold up notifying you any longer.

Pastor Dale, I’m happy to circle back if you want to speak before Sunday, or maybe I could catch you one evening.

Thanks so much for your understanding and patience...

Evan

We were able to place this on the agenda of Worship & Program as well as Church Council. Our reaction was unanimous – sadness for Evan leaving a position he has held since Lent 2015. But also congratulations for his success at work. The other consensus was an invitation for Evan (and his mother) to remain connected to the Trinity Community for a worship home or in any other way that they choose.
Please know that we have a plan to proceed in the immediate and more distant future that allows us to assess current needs, future directions, etc.

But for the moment – please MARK YOUR CALENDARS

for a special “Thank You” reception for Evan on December 18 after worship.

Pastor Dale
