THE BISHOP CAME TO TRINITY

Our biennial bishop visitation was on Sunday, February 11th, when Bishop Jeff Mello joined us for worship to preach and preside, and he spent time with us at Coffee Hour and also met with the vestry. At the service, he confirmed, received, and reaffirmed five members of Trinity (see pictures below).

During his visit, he noted how active Trinity is on the diocesan level, thanks to dedicated people such as Mother Carrie, Greg Farr, and others. He saluted us for how committed we are towards the mission of the church, especially right here on our block. He mentioned his excitement to "be in the room where it [Rhythms of Grace] happened," and it made some of us think of other programs born right here, such as the Community Soup Kitchen, Susan B. Anthony Project, and Operation Overflow. Who knows what other programs and services are percolating in our parish!

If you didn't make it to church, please visit our website to view the service or hear the Bishop's sermon.

THE TORRINGTON LIONS SHOW US THE MONEY!

The Torrington Lions Club donated five hundred dollars to Project Overflow! They also gave a big thank you to Trinity Episcopal Church for stepping up and offering our church for the winter.

Great things continue to happen in our Upper Parish Hall!

February is Black History Month! There are lots of ways to celebrate - consider attending the Absalom Jones service on February 18 and the music documentary screening on February 24 (details are below). Perhaps read a book or essay by a Black author or watch a movie that reflects the experiences of African Americans.

You can also celebrate Black History Month by tuning into “Uncle Con’s Diner” every Friday in February, from noon to 2:00 p.m. on WAPJ, Torrington Community Radio. Trinity’s own Conrad Sienkiewicz will be playing gospel, ragtime, blues, folk, jazz, R&B, rock, soul, ska, pop, funk, Broadway, and more! He can take your requests, too, at 860 489-9033. In Torrington, you can catch the show by tuning your FM dial to 89.9, or stream it live from the station’s website at www.wapj.org, or find WAPJ on your favorite radio app, such as TuneIn or Audials.

CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND LEGACY

OF ABSALOM JONES

A service celebrating Absalom Jones will be on Sunday, February 18, at 4 pm at St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Hartford. Rev. D Littlepage - the Canon for Mission Advocacy, Racial Justice & Reconciliation - will preach.

Attendees are asked to bring something for the reception which will follow the service.

Contact Conrad if you would like to be part of a caravan driving to St. Monica's that afternoon.

CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH A MUSIC DOCUMENTARY!

On February 24 at 1pm, Trinity Church and Our Culture is Beautiful will host a screening of a 2021 music documentary, followed by a discussion of racism led by Angaza Mwando and Conrad Sienkiewicz. This film focuses on a 1969 outdoor music festival in New York that featured some of the biggest musical acts of the day - but it wasn't Woodstock! (Think uptown, not upstate.) The film footage from this festival sat neglected in a basement for 50 years - why? Come groove to the music and explore the possible answers this question.

Popcorn will be available. The movie is free, but donations will be accepted. Bring a friend!

If you have an idea for a movie event, or if you have any questions, please contact Conrad.

Please keep the Overflow staff in your prayers - they have been working very hard to run the program, and it isn't easy.

Take a look at their check-in desk - this was made by one of their guests.

If you have an announcement or event that you would like publicized, or if you are a parishioner involved in an event that you would like to share with the parish, please send it to The Portal at [email protected], and we can then direct your announcement to the best method of communication.
