Special Presentation for Trinity Parents: Safe Social Network--Teaching Your Teen How to Positively Navigate on Social Media
Join us on Wednesday, October 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Trinity Auditorium for a presentation on teaching teens positive use of social media. Ben Tracy learned the hard way how comments made on social media can come back to haunt you in your adult life. Ben landed a fantastic job just after graduating from college--working for the governor of Illinois. But he was fired on his first day on the job. Why? Because comments he made as a teenager on social media resurfaced on that day. Since then he has founded Safe Social Network and has given talks around the country to teenagers and college students about their presence on social media. He talks not only about social media posts but also about cyberbullying, sexting, and how social media impacts mental health.

Trinity students will hear Ben's presentation at a special assembly on Wednesday, October 6. Parents will have an opportunity to hear what Ben has to say at a parent presentation that evening at 6:30 in the auditorium. Any Trinity parents who attend will earn their students a dress down day for Tuesday, October 12.

Opportunity for Students: Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technical Center
Trinity High School partners with Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technical Center (CPACTC) to offer our students opportunities to take courses in a number of areas including: advertising arts and design, automotive technology, carpentry, computer networking and programming, dental assisting, and more. Trinity students who live in either Cumberland County or Perry County can attend CPACTC on a part-time basis for up to three years. Programs are offered either in the morning or afternoon (the time is based on their local public school district's schedule). Morning students catch the bus to CPACTC from their home high school, and then they must provide their own transportation back to Trinity for afternoon classes. Afternoon students must provide their own transportation to CPACTC, and then they can ride the bus back to their home high school at the end of the school day.

Trinity will offer transportation to CPACTC on Thursday, October 21, for a morning tour. At this time, we are trying to determine the number of interested students. Respond to Mrs. Annette Nebel at (717) 761-1116 ext. 161 no later than Tuesday, October 12, with questions or to reserve a place for the tour on October 21. We cannot accept late requests.

Families may also wish to attend an Open House at CPACTC on the following dates:
November 3, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.-- Health Sciences, Arts and Technology, Human Services
November 4, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.--Transportation and Logistics, Construction, Manufacturing
Parents and students can attend on one or both nights.  Pre-registration is not required. Masks must be worn.

P.E. Uniform
Beginning Monday October 4, all students should be wearing the school-approved PE shorts. They can either be purchased from FlynnO'Hara (black shorts or green shorts) or from Envision.

Additionally, students are required to change into their PE uniforms on dress down days, including for the upcoming homecoming spirit week. Please contact your student's P.E. teacher with any questions or concerns.

Enforcement of Trinity's Uniform Policies
Some issues with the school uniform continue from the first weeks of school, and we ask that these issues be addressed so that all students are in compliance beginning Friday, October 1. For those not in compliance, disciplinary action will begin.
  • Shoes--The Student/Parent Handbook states that acceptable shoes are deck shoes, a basic Oxford, or a penny loafer. While many of the students prefer the Sperry brand of the deck shoe, that does not mean any type of shoe made by the Sperry company is acceptable. Several students have begun to wear Sperry sneakers. These are not part of the dress code. If you do not know the difference, please Google "Sperry deck shoes" and the appropriate pictures will appear, or Google "Sperry sneakers" and pictures of the unacceptable shoes will appear.
  • Tops--Students are to wear the appropriate Trinity uniform tops. From now until the beginning of November, students may wear a white or green golf shirt with the Trinity logo, the green cardigan sweater, or the quarter-zip Trinity sweatshirt. Any other sweaters, jackets, or sweatshirts are not acceptable and cannot be worn from 8:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. If students choose to wear these to school, they must place them in their lockers until the end of the day.
  • Shorts--Students choosing this option must wear FlynnO'Hara uniform shorts. FlynnO'Hara shorts and long pants bear their company logo above the back pocket.
  • Skirts--The acceptable skirt length is no shorter than three inches from the middle of the knee (which also means two inches from the top of the knee). Skirts from our Uniform Exchange may not be the appropriate length unless hemmed. Please check skirt lengths this week so that they are the appropriate length.

Alumni Homecoming
All alumni and their families are invited to join us for our Homecoming festivities Friday, October 8! Please RSVP by October 4.
  • 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.--Join us in the Alumni Tent prior to the 7:00 p.m. game versus Steel High. Grab a bite to eat and mingle with other alumni in attendance. All alumni will receive a free game ticket.
  • 7:00 p.m.--Watch our Shamrocks take on the Steel High Rollers at COBO Field.

Trinity Volleyball "Digs Pink"
Trinity Volleyball seniors have planned a "Dig Pink" charity event on October 7 at their home game against Middletown. This event will support the Side-Out Foundation and metastatic breast cancer research. The team is raising money by having a bake sale; offering sponsorship of individual players (spectators can pledge a dollar amount for any kill/ace/dig their selected player gets), and a balloon sale ($5 for a balloon in honor of someone special to be placed around the gym). Donate by bringing cash to the game, giving it to a Volleyball player, or through Venmo @shamrocksdigpink21. The girls and coaching staff will wear Dig Pink Trinity Volleyball shirts paid for by anonymous donors. Anyone interested in helping or with questions can contact Ryanne Whiteman.

Standardized Testing
Trinity will administer the PSAT to students in grades 9, 10, and 11 on October 13. Freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9. Sophomores will take the PSAT. Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT, as this test provides entry to the National Merit Program for students with qualifying scores. Spiritual Reflection
by Deacon Scott Root
Gospel for Sunday, October 3, 2021--27th  Sunday in Ordinary Time
The Pharisees approached Jesus and asked, "Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" They were testing him. He said to them in reply, "What did Moses command you?" They replied, Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her." But Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.
Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate." In the house the disciples again questioned Jesus about this. He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery." And people were bringing children to him that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, "Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it." Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.--Mark 10:2-12

Reflection

Let the children come to me. We are all God's children, and he desires us to come to him with child-like love and innocence. As parents, we all probably have fond memories of a child crawling into our lap to be hugged and held. God wants us to do the same. In the midst of whatever we are facing on a daily basis, God wants us to feel comfortable and comforted in his presence. He wants us to know that we are safe and secure in his love. We have to open our lives to him, by crawling into his lap through prayer, Mass, and the Sacraments. Reconciliation is a great place to feel the comforting touch of God in our lives. Let us pray this week for a more child-like love of the Father of us all.
Video of the Week
Prayer for the Week--Prayer for Childlike Faith
Heavenly Father, help us to develop a trust and faith in You that reflects the simplicity of childlike faith that so rejoices Your heart, and which is so evident in the lives of little children, and yet which seems to evaporate into a vapor as soon as we reach the age of maturity. May we develop a wonder and an amazement at the glorious redemption story and a deep humility as we approach Your thrice-holy throne of grace to ask for help in time of need.

Forgive us for losing so much of the wonder of the beautiful incarnation and for becoming complacent about the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Renew in us a deep reverence for Your holy name, as befits our great and glorious Creator God, Who loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins, so that whosever believes on Him would not perish but have everlasting life.
