Sponsor a Child's Bible

Do you know the purpose statement of Trinity's Child Development Center? We are very, very grateful for what Trinity Downtown is able to provide to local children and families through the CDC. The purpose statement is:

Trinity Lutheran School's Child Development Center

nurtures the development of the whole child

from a core foundation of faith,

preparing them spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally

in partnership with their family

for future academic success and to lead purpose-filled lives for Christ.

We are thrilled to have earned a score of 98.31 out of 100 possible points from our National Lutheran School Accreditation Self Study. An 80% overall score is required for recommendation to the National Lutheran School Accreditation in Good Standing.

In keeping with our purpose, each year Trinity Downtown gives a brand new children's Bible, The Jesus Storybook Bible, to every child who graduates from our four VPK classes. As these children leave our Lutheran child care center and begin Kindergarten at a new school, we send with them, and their families, the best gift we can give - a foundation of faith, nurturing, and the Word of God -- with a note inside that will remind them for years to come of their Trinity Family!

Each Bible is $10 or a case of 20 for $200. Please consider sponsoring one or more Bibles for these children. Checks can be sent to the office or dropped in the offering plate with VPK BIBLES written in the memo line.

Beyond Grief Share Bible Study

Beginning May 2, Connie Sobol will be hosting a Bible study called "Beyond Grief Share." This study will be held in Loggia 2 at the same time as Grief Share and is open to anyone currently part of Grief Share or anyone who would like to join. The first topic they will study will be regarding the book of Job.

Prayerful Thoughts from Rusty Stephens

Heavenly Father,

We pray to You in the name of your son our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Holy week is a week of emotional ups and downs. For those of us who love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we give the greatest thanks to you, Jesus, for what you have done for us. We will always remember what you went through in this week.

The week started out with celebration and joy that first Palm Sunday on that road into Jerusalem, filled with people’s cloaks and palm branches as you, Jesus, rode in on a donkey colt. Many were shouting, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"

As the week went on, celebrations faded. Some of what took place, chief priest and scribes plotting to arrest and kill you, Jesus. Two of your disciples, one betraying you and the other denying you. Through the betrayal you, Jesus, were arrested and questioned by the chief priest and the whole council. Instead of learning from you, Jesus, and seeing that you are the promised Savior from God, in their arrogant blindness they just wanted you out of the way.

Jesus, in the middle of all of this, your love showed through as you and the disciples partook in the eating of bread and drinking of wine as your body and blood given and shed for the forgiveness of all of our sins. Jesus, we thank you for our opportunities to receive this sacred blessing.

After you, Jesus, had been turned over to Pilate, he could not find any wrong done by you. Multiple times before the crowd of people that he allowed to judge, between a totally innocent person, Jesus, and a convicted murderer, Barabbas. First, the crowd chose for the release of Barabbas and the crucifixion of Jesus. Two other times Pilate asked, "Why?" The crowd kept getting louder each time shouting, “Crucify him.” When we take a good look at ourselves and all of the sins that we have committed, knowing that it took the death of Jesus for our sins to be forgiven in order to be saved, we also in effect are guilty of shouting, “Crucify him.”

Then for you, Jesus, a crown of thorns on your head, the mocking towards you, the spitting on you, the savage beating and whipping you received, after which you were forced to carry your heavy cross as far as you could. Nails the size of large spikes were driven through your hands and feet in attachment to that cross, being placed in the middle of two others paying their deserved punishment; the mocking and torment continued. Jesus, you cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Taking on yourself all of the sins of the world, your Father in Heaven had to be separated from you, Jesus, because of those sins, which you committed, not even one. How crushing it must have felt, Jesus, to be carrying all of this alone.

Yet throughout all of this your love for all continued. From the cross you said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” When one of the criminals beside you, Jesus, admitted his guilt and knowing that you were innocent said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom,” you told him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Jesus, seeing your mother Mary watching all of this, you made sure that she would be cared for the rest of her life.

With the sacrifice for our sins about to be completed you, Jesus, said, “It is finished,” and in a loud voice said “Father into your hands I commit my spirit!” Then you breathed your last. Your body, Jesus, was placed in a tomb. Scripture lets us know that you, Jesus, saw the devil, informing him that you had defeated him, which gave the devil the message that he cannot have anyone who follows you, Jesus.

On the third day the first Easter came. What was thought of at first as the stolen body of you, Jesus, turned out to be your defeat of death by your resurrection and eventual ascension into Heaven, reuniting with your Father, God, our Heavenly Father. This opened the way to Heaven for all who believe and trust in you, Jesus; then having true sorrow for their sins, and a sincere confession to you, Jesus, you let our Heavenly Father know and just like on the cross, “Father forgive them”. God then wipes away all of our sins totally cleansing and purifying us. We give thanks to you, Jesus, for taking those sins away from us. When that day arrives for our time in this life to end, Jesus, with that amazing love for us you will lead us to our eternal home. In the permanent presence of our Triune God, we will reside in a paradise free from all of the pain, suffering, and sins of this world and be filled with beauty and peace and joy and happiness and yes, complete and total love forever.

Lord In Your Mercy

Hear Our Prayer

Amen.
