MISSIONS AT WORK IN GULFPORT
This past fall Trinity's Missions Committee was contacted by Pete Berlowitz seeking our help for a couple who are Senior citizens without insurance. Their home was damaged by fire in the winter of 2022. Pete first learned about Trinity when he came down with a Habitat For Humanity group in 2005 after Katrina, and his group helped rebuild approximately 100 homes between East Biloxi and Waveland. He returned in 2015 with his Christian group, Fuller Center Disaster Rebuilders (FCDR), to do a Katrina 10th anniversary blitz-build. During the 2 weeks the group was here several homes were built or rebuilt. One of these was on South Street in Gulfport behind St. James Church on Cowan. This is where he met the couple whose home caught fire due to a space heater. When Pete learned of this he offered to help rebuild their home.To assist this family Pete acted on his own, not on behalf of FCDR, although he did have some support from Back Bay Mission and Craig Steenkamp. He also had the help of an Amish team that came down to help with the roof and additional labor once the home was gutted.
It was at this point that Pete approached Trinity Missions seeking help with plumbing or HVAC, either financially or with volunteers. Your Missions Committee was able to financially support the project with a donation of $3,000.
Pete has informed us that the work is completed, and the couple has moved back into their home. He wishes to express his appreciation to Trinity Methodist for the generous donation that helped this couple return home.
Pete invites you to attend the following:
Home Dedication on January 16th at 2 PM
2016 South Street, Gulfport, MS
Would love to see you there.
