XR Connection: NACC's Performance/Motion Capture Workshop Series.
The XR Connection:
NACC's Performance/Motion Capture Workshop Series was an initiative in partnership with Dechı̨ta Nàowo that engaged youth from Dettah and Ndilǫ through storytelling, virtual reality, and animation.
The workshops allowed participants to develop a story, characters, and scripts, which were turned into 2 immersive storytelling experiences: Sedeè & Dechı̨ta, Zǫǫ & Nǫdi
The workshops were structured in a way that:
- The Elders presented stories and advised on what things were like in the time that the
youth’s stories were set to take place.
- The Youth developed their own story and scripts and then performed the actions of the
3D characters in the story using MOCAP Suits.
- The Adults then developed the environment and character 3D models involved in the
story, and Professional artists were involved along the way to ensure quality and
completion
This project wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the leading professional
resources involved in this project: Davis Heslep, Shaun Anderson, Andy Rudolph, and
Laurie-Ann Lines. NACC would also like to send a big Thank You to all of the students, elders, and drummers involved in making this happen. We are happy this initiative allowed local youth to engage in indigenous storytelling, VR animation and design, playing live, and sound design.
