Triple P holds community convening to talk about its future in the region

Hi Triple P parents,

I wanted to share an update with you about Triple P in Elkhart County and what we talked about at a community meeting last Friday.

On March 6, about 30 people who help offer Triple P — folks from schools, community organizations, health care, and more — came together to talk about the future of Triple P here in our county. We spent time looking back at what we’ve built together and talking honestly about what comes next.

For the past 10 years, Horizon Education Alliance (HEA) has played a behind‑the‑scenes role, helping coordinate Triple P so that parents across Elkhart County could access classes, coaching, and resources. During that time, more than 10,000 parents have used Triple P tools to build stronger, more confident families.

Now, HEA is shifting its focus more toward youth and adult career pathways, and they’re also facing some financial limitations. Because of this, HEA will step away from its coordinating role with Triple P starting in July 2026. This doesn’t mean Triple P has “failed” or that parenting support isn’t important — everyone at the meeting agreed that supporting parents like you is still absolutely essential.

At the convening, our Triple P team — Trisha Lightfoot, Sabrina Ibarra, HEA data manager Meaghan Bylsma, and I — led a “data walk” to share some of the results of this work. We looked at numbers and stories that showed how Triple P has made a difference for families, schools, and neighborhoods across the county. It was a powerful reminder that your time, effort, and willingness to try new strategies with your kids really matter.

We also talked a lot about the future. Many of the organizations at the meeting want to keep offering Triple P or pieces of it, even after HEA changes roles. With the help of our facilitator, Dr. Kim Boynton, people shared ideas about how to keep programs going, what support they’ll need, and how we can make sure parents don’t lose access to help when they need it.

As your Triple P director, I left the meeting feeling both the weight of change and a lot of hope. Triple P in Elkhart County has always been about community, about people like you who care deeply about their kids and are willing to learn, try new things, and support one another.

Over the coming months, we’ll share more concrete information about what will stay the same, what may look different, and how you can keep accessing support. For now, I want you to know this: you are not alone, and there are many people in this community who are committed to making sure parents continue to have the tools and encouragement they need.

Thank you for being part of the Triple P community and for everything you do every day for your children. If you have questions or want to stay closely updated on next steps, please reach out — we’re here to walk through this transition with you.

Sincerely,

Leah Plank

Director, Triple P Elkhart County (and Beyond)
