Triple P in Elkhart County Parent Newsletter - August 2023

This Month in Triple P: Supporting families for back-to-school season!

It's August, which means it's back-to-school time across Elkhart County. Whether you are a parent or an educator, the start of school is one of the most important periods of transition each year, and even more so for parents with children starting school for the first time or changing schools.

Read on to learn more about how Positive Parenting Program is empowering parents for back to school!

One night, one library, two workshops August 3 to give Nappanee parents a strong start to the school year!

Help Your Child Thrive in Kindergarten: This free 90-minute workshop is intended for parents of children starting Kindergarten at Wa-Nee Community Schools, though parents of any Kindergarten-age child can benefit from adapting the Positive Parenting strategies we will share. Register here and join us at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, August 3, at Nappanee Public Library.

Doing Well in Middle and High School: This free 90-minute workshop is geared toward parents of tweens and teens who are making the transition to either middle school/junior high or high school. This event sponsored by Wa-Nee Community Schools will help any parent of older children feel more confident and connected to their child during these times of scholastic transition. Register here and join us at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, August 3, at Nappanee Public Library.

If you have a kindergartener and an older child, you might want to divide and conquer: bring your co-parenting partner and each go to one of the workshops!

Triple P and Fables for Goshen First Friday!

We hope you will join us once again at Fables Books in downtown Goshen for the city's First Friday celebration! This month, the annual Cornhole Rules cornhole tournament will be the centerpiece of the citywide celebration on August 4.

If you come see us at Fables, your kids can make seasonal bookmarks with us to help them keep track of their reading as school starts! We hope you join us for the fun!

Catch Triple P at the Elkhart Community Resource Fair August 10!

The City of Elkhart is organizing a communitywide resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lerner Theatre in downtown and Triple P will be there to share about the parent resources available across the city and beyond in English and Spanish.

We encourage all parents in the Elkhart area to find time to come to this large community event to learn more about the services and resources available to residents of the City with a Heart!

Concord parents: Watch for upcoming Triple P events at your school!

Concord Community Schools are all-in on Triple P for the 2023-24 school year, with more newly trained practitioners and a full schedule of events to keep parents of students at every grade level feeling confident and supported. Those events start this month, with a number of upcoming Kindergarten 101 workshops at each elementary school.

Watch TriplePElkhartCounty.org for upcoming events as well as the Triple P and Concord Community Schools Facebook pages.

Get ready for Kindergarten August 22 at Middlebury Public Library!

Monthly workshops at Elkhart Health & Aquatics roll on with "Raising Resilient Children" in August!

We have another monthly Triple P seminar coming up at Elkhart Health & Aquatics in downtown Elkhart. While parents are attending the monthly sessions and learning about Positive Parenting strategies, we have all kinds of fun enrichment activities for kids in the children's room like the parachute play pictured above!

Join us at Elkhart Health & Aquatics at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, for Raising Resilient Children in English and Spanish. Thank you to the parents who joined us for the first sessions in June and July, and thank you as always to our friends at Beacon Health System and Beacon Community Impact for supporting Triple P as hosts and funding partners.

Hang out with us at the Elkhart County Health Department Neighborhood Block Party August 31!

Join us from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, at the Elkhart County Health Department for the 2nd annual Neighborhood Block Party! Triple P is a sponsor of this community event that brings fun, food, and games for families as well as a wealth of information and connections to services and resources in the community to help kids and families thrive.

We hope to see you there!

Have an idea or a connection for Triple P? Send it along to us!

We at Triple P in Elkhart County are always looking for ways to reach more parents and families in the community, but we realize we don't know about every opportunity out there. If you know of a parent group, an employer, a faith community, an advertising channel, a community leader or leadership group, any connection (including things that you yourself participate in or lead) that would be open to sharing Positive Parenting in the community, please feel free to let us know!

Send any information or suggestions you have to our acting director, Leah Plank, at [email protected] any time. She is always glad to meet and brainstorm about possibilities for parent support.
