Triple P in Elkhart County Parent Newsletter - October 2023

This Month in Triple P: Spreading the word to parents about bullying prevention

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and Triple P in Elkhart County wants to help parents and caregivers of children who have been bullied develop the tools to build bully-proof kids. Our one-hour workshop called Being Bullied, or Me Están Acosando en español, will be presented several times in October and on November 1 as well.

On October 19, we will present Being Bullied as a virtual workshop at two different times: 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. You can register for either session, whichever time works best for your schedule. We will present the workshop virtually in Spanish at 6 p.m. on October 11 and October 25, and parents can register for whichever session they prefer. Click either flyer below to download a PDF copy of the flyer.

Our partners at Heart City Church, 303 S. Third St., in Elkhart, are also hosting an in-person presentation of the Being Bullied parent workshop in English at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 1.

The church will be serving a free dinner at 6 p.m. before the workshop, and all families are welcome to join for the meal and time to be together. You can also bring your children, because child enrichment activities will be happening for them while parents are in the hour-long workshop.

You can click the flyer to download a copy, or click here to register for the workshop now. Thank you to Pastor Joel and Heart City Church for your partnership!

Pastor Joel and his wife, Jamie

Meet A Triple P Partner: Pastor Joel Irvin of Heart City Church

And speaking of Pastor Joel, we are pleased to introduce you to Joel Irvin, the pastor at one of our longtime Triple P host sites, Heart City Church.

Heart City Church is located in downtown Elkhart, and they provide Sunday worship services, community groups, parenting workshops, and opportunities for civic involvement.

Joel and his wife, Jamie, have been foster parents for eight years. They originally found Triple P while looking for ways to fulfill training requirements for foster parents. Joel shared with us that he and Jamie “have found Triple P to be among the most helpful parenting training available.” He says Triple P has helped him and his wife become better foster parents.

It has also allowed their church to lovingly serve the parent and caregiver community around them. Joel says many parents from the church and the wider community have come to the Triple P workshops they host and benefitted from them.

Currently, Joel and Jamie have two foster children as well as a dog and a turtle. Joel shared with me that on top of being a pastor, he is a major history buff!
