The freaks came out on Friday the 13th πΉ for Matt Berg and his sketchy net-man (lol) Dan Pfiefer when they stuck this 32" behemoth on Lake of the Woods!!! Caught running Bandit Walleye Deep Divers on leadcore in the basin. What dreams are made of right here!
Yup, that's a handful alright!
Nicely done, fellas! And GREAT release. β»οΈ

They can't all be giants. π€·ββοΈ

We share a lot of pics of ridiculously-oversized fish, but gotta give some love to the little buggers that reeeeally test your bite-detection abilities:
1) This might be the smallest walleye I've ever seen caught that actually tried to eat the bait. Posted by ON's Kevin St-charles of @upnorth_fishingadventures:
> Kevin: "It's not always about the big fish, I'm even happier to catch those small fish knowing the lake is reproducing as it should. I can't emphasize enough on letting the big fish go as they're the best spawners. Let them go, let them grow!"
Love it.
And sounds like Kamden has the right attitude, too:
> "Not exactly what I was hoping for, but always nice to see the next year class coming up strong."
No doubt!
Bet you've never seen a dropshot rig like this before. π€―
Bass-head John Murray just outed what he calls the " triple dropshot." Runs a small treble hook with a fluke on each point. Looks like a little school of fish, yet doesn't use multiple hooks so it should be legal in states where that's an issue:
Thought it might just get your creative juices flowing on the walleye side of things!
Funny enough I do a similar trick for burbot on my rattle reels using fatheads hahaha.

Folks are eating big bluegills GONE. π€¦ββοΈ
> "The term panfish, to some, seems to imply that God put bluegills, crappies and perch here for one reason: To be filleted and consumed in assembly-line numbers.
> "Too often, anglers view the harvest limit not as a management tool but as a daily fishing goal and a measuring stick for success."
And the answer is "yes," science is out there proving that folks who keep too many big bluegills can ruin the size structure of an entire fishery.
From Dave Weitzel, MN DNR fisheries supervisor in Grand Rapids:
> "Bluegill populations can be radically altered by the targeted harvest of top-end size breeding males. As the size of remaining male bluegills decreases, bluegills respond by maturing and spawning earlier. This means much of their energy goes toward reproductive success rather than growth during the early stages of their lives.
> "Eventually, because of increased competition for limited food sources, small, stunted fish overtake the population...can take decades to reverse."
If this info even slightly tickles your fancy...I strongly recommend reading Cory Schmidt's full In-Fisherman write-up here.

Maybe guide trips should come with this t-shirt?

Better listen up...else you might catch 2 middle fingers (lol):

No doubt those walleyes were acting like walleyes (stingy) but Randy Gaines put a stamp on the saying "troll for dough" running Salmo Hornets all the way to a $35K payday!
He caught just 11 scoreable walleye over the course of the event, but his average size was ridiculous = had just under 64 lbs which was roughly a 5.82-lb average! #bigguns
Huge congrats, man! π Well deserved.
Roy Isaac caught the 4-lb 7-oz (19") slab out of Sleepy Hollow Lake that demolished the previous record of 3-13. BIG congrats, man!

Interesting how the fish has the body of a white crappie, but the markings of a black crappie. Hybrid of some sort?
Btw the current NY state-record black crappie is 4-01.
Happenin' Aug 4-6 on Lake Oahe outta Mobridge, SD.
They have a map that shows where acoustic-tagged walleye are hiding on Lake Pend Oreille β tagged fish could be worth up to $1K a piece in their angler incentive program:
As of this Aug 25 screenshot, I think I'd be focusing my attention near the Sandpoint bridges. π§

Cptn Paul Powis of J&P Fishing Charters will be headlining this edition, and chatting Great Lakes walleye and steelhead fishing.
Jordan Wand. Sounds like he has a ton of experience coming from both inside and outside the industry (Under Armour, Outdoor Research, Merrell, Nike, and more).
Christmas trees, and rockpiles, and wooden platforms, oh my! Type of thing you would only find on the black market π where I'm at in MN:
Industry vets Terry Posey and Tim Reitan who have nearly a half-century of combined experience. Sorry, not trying to age you fellas! Lol.
> The burlap is meant to block out sunlight, killing the plants. They are then suctioned out of the lake.

Best of luck! π³
> DEC will apply an aquatic herbicide (copper) to the site during [this week] to prevent hydrilla from reaching the Niagara River....
Never heard of anyone fishing that bassy vegetable for 'eyes...maybe that will change?
Because of invasives.
Hook and line.

> According to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office...a bass fisherman fishing on the Chisago and Lindstrom lakes [MN] saw something unusual on his depth finder in approximately 10' of water near the public docks.
> The sheriff's office dispatched deputies...where they eventually removed a GMC pickup truck from the lake. A deceased man was located inside the truck. The sheriff's office said the body is connected to a missing persons case out of Fridley.
Prayers to the family.
