Changing times!
I met a drum instructor where I take my banjo lessons, and of course our conversation wound up on motorcycles. He told me he rode motocross as a kid, has been wanting a street bike for years and is now thinking it’s going to happen. His buddies all ride Harleys but he doesn’t want a Harley.
As I grew up in motorcycling, the cool people rode Harleys. The “bad boys” rode them and everyone wanted to copy them. That idea has been changing for years now. I actually wanted a Harley back in the day but couldn’t afford one. So I got a used Honda 750. Now I am so glad I went that direction, but things were different back then.
Our conversation led to him wanting a cool bike to ride with his Harley friends. He wants power but not a superbike, and it has to fit in. He said he was interested in maybe the Triumph Bonneville! At that point in the conversation he didn’t even know I’m a Triumph dealer. I explained the Bonnie would be perfect ,as it has a real “cool” factor and meets all his other wishes. The Bonneville is as legendary as the Harley, and has better all-around performance to boot. Especially as we get older we want something lighter but still has great power. I told him my favorite bike is my Bonnie 1200, but the 900 model would also work great for his needs.
