#2 Power of the Purse 2025 Raises $30,000 at Signature Event

Women United's signature event, Power of the Purse, raised more than $30,000 at the 15th annual event Thursday, June 5.

About 180 supporters attended the fundraiser held at Central Wisconsin Expo & Convention Center. This year's event was full of energy, laughter, and friendly bidding wars. At one point, the auctioneer stood on a chair to place herself between two women who were in a bidding war!

All proceeds are invested into programs that support women in your community working to increase self-sufficiency and improve their lives.

#3 Day of Action Volunteers Breathe Life into Community Closet walls

On June 20 an amazing group of volunteers gathered at our Community Closet to give the walls a fresh coat of paint in a soothing blue hue.

Day of Action is a day where hundreds of United Ways and thousands of volunteers around the world make a difference in the communities in which they live and work.

We know that volunteerism does good, but sometimes we forget that it feels good, too. Studies show that volunteerism helps people feel connected, feel valued and feel better.

At United Way of Marathon County, we offer unique volunteer opportunities with our Community Closet, Mobile Community Closet, Hunger Coalition, and more.

#4 Juneteenth - a Day of Giving Back to the Community

We had a busy Juneteenth day Thursday, June 19!

Our United Way staff spent the day volunteering in the community at multiple nonprofits. At the end of the day, some were covered in dirt and some with animal hair, but it was a day to remember. Below is where we spent our time.

  • Humane Society of Marathon County
  • The Neighbors' Place
  • Wausau Habitat Restore
  • United Way Hunger Coalition's 'Our Garden'
