FRIDAY FLASH

August 19, 2022

A Note from Headmaster Schutten

Dear Trivium Prep families,

Our Community Investment and Public School Tax Credit campaigns make it possible to provide a rich curriculum, character-building activities, and a vibrant Athletics program for all students at Trivium Prep.  I want to sincerely thank the families who have chosen to partner with us by making a gift to Community Investment and Tax Credit already this year.

If you have not yet given, please consider partnering with us this year through a monthly gift to Community Investment and by re-directing a portion of your tax dollars to Trivium Prep through the AZ Public School Tax Credit. Your generosity leaves a lasting impact on our students.

Help support the education you have chosen for your child by visiting www.triviumprep.org/support or contacting our Family Giving and Community Engagement Officer (FGO), Annann Hong (see below), at ahong@triviumprep.org or call (773) 307-6779.

Warmest regards,

Dan Schutten

Headmaster

Family Giving | Dr. Annann Hong

Welcome to a new year!!!

For those of you that have just attended Curriculum Night this past week or are about to do so next week, we hope that your child’s teachers will have inspired you, not only in presenting an overview of their delivery of the Great Hearts curriculum in the classroom, but also for their passion and commitment. Now more than ever, Trivium Prep needs OUR support through Community Investment. ALL of us need to invest back into our school in order to provide Headmaster Schutten more financial resources to thoroughly tackle our growing expenses, everything from the building mortgage, to monthly utilities, to classroom copies of textbooks so scholars can keep their copies at home, as well adequate compensation for our teachers for the incredible work they do in their classrooms. Thank you so much to the families who have already sign up this year to support our school through a monthly or one-time gift of Community Investment. If your family is not yet on this donor list, please use this link to set up your tax-deductible giving. GIFTS OF ALL SIZES MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Do not let a worry that you cannot give more be the reason you do not give at all. If you have any questions at all, please contact Annann Hong at ahong@triviumprep.org or call/text (773) 307-6779. We are so grateful for our Trivium family!!

Join us for High School Parent Curriculum Night!

We are excited to welcome our parents to campus for our High School Curriculum Night. These evenings are an opportunity for parents to meet their child's teachers and learn more about the curriculum at Trivium Prep.

High School Parent Curriculum Night - Thursday, August 25

5:40 PM, Doors Open/Info Tables in Gym

Parents arrive and enter campus through the northeast Gym door on the east side of the campus. Parents will pickup a copy of their child's schedule and may visit Information Tables for academic subjects, Parent Service Organization (PSO), Enrichment Courses, etc.

6-8 PM, Presentation by Leadership/Classroom Rotations

At 6 PM, our programming will begin. Parents will hear from Headmaster Schutten and our leadership team. At the conclusion of this presentation, they will be directed to their child's 1st period classroom to meet the teacher and learn about the curriculum. Parents will follow their child's schedule, until they have attended all classes.

This is an evening for parents to meet teachers and learn more about their student's classes/curriculum. Parents will meet in the gym and then be dismissed to classrooms where they will follow their student's schedule to hear presentations by our teachers. This event is for parents only.

The Middle School Minute - Tips for Scholar Success

We're excited to introduce a new feature designed to support our students' academic success. Look for regular updates and discuss these ideas with your students. Please reach out to Mr. Simmons, our Middle School Assistant Headmaster, with questions or ideas for upcoming topics at dsimmons@triviumprep.org.

Reinforcing your Scholar’s Academic Skills

Learning doesn’t only happen during our school day. You can reinforce your scholar’s academic skills at any time.

Have conversations with your scholar about school. Ask your scholar to elaborate on topics that come naturally and those that are more challenging. Engage in active listening as your scholar is relating academic concepts with you. Find out about your scholar’s perspective by asking why they are forming the perception that they are.

Have your scholar teach you. Ask your scholar to retell the concepts that they are learning. By explaining a concept, you are helping your scholar reinforce their understanding in a way that they are able to teach the content.

Help your scholar engage in critical thinking by relating learned concepts to real-world activities. These conversations help provide meaningful experiences. Your scholar will be able to discuss the similarities and differences with the knowledge and skills gained to the world around them.

Trivium Prep Folders

This week, our middle school students were given a Trivium Prep folder. This is a wonderful tool for keeping organized and is full of useful information including a map, bell schedule, Academy Honor Code and Family Handbook reminders. If your middle school scholar didn't receive one, please have them check with their Homeroom teacher or stop by the front office.

Health Policy Reminders

As a reminder, scholars must stay home from school if they have:

  • a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher
  • vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • a wet, productive cough and/or nasal drainage that is not clear in color
  • difficulty breathing or uncontrolled coughing
  • mucus or pus draining from the eye
  • an undiagnosed, new, and/or untreated rash or skin condition
  • live lice

Students may return after 24 hours without fever and without use of fever-reducing medications, and 24 hours since the last incidence of vomiting and/or diarrhea. If a student returns to school prior to 24 hours without these symptoms, he or she will be sent home.

Snack Donations

Our scholars visit the health office often with stomachaches. Sometimes, they forget breakfast or can't quite make it to lunchtime or forget their lunch.  Our Health Office is looking for donations of the following items to support our students:

  • Cup of soup
  • Granola Bars
  • Breakfast biscuits
  • small, 8oz water bottles

Trivium Prep Picture Day - Thursday, September 1

Trivium Prep School Picture Day is Thursday, September 1. All students will be photographed and receive a student ID. Please keep this ID as it will be used this year for things like school dance entrance and late school check-in.

Students must be in school uniform on Picture Day. Please review the school dress code in our Family Handbook and reach out to our Student Deans with any questions. We ask that when families begin to prepare for picture day, please make sure all aspects of school uniform (hair, nails, jewelry, etc.) are dress-code compliant.

Ordering Pictures:

Order online by going to dorianstudio.com and searching for Trivium. Select the order button from the appropriate photo day, select your picture package, and complete your transaction. Pictures will be delivered to the school several weeks after picture day and given to your student. If you have problems with your order, contact support@dorianstudio.com or call 1-800-826-3535.

To order by check, send your student to school with the ordering envelope (sent home before picture day). They will need to give that envelope to the photographer when they have their picture taken. After picture day, you can still order your pictures for 4 days. After the 4-day window has passed, you will need to contact Dorian Studio to receive a personalized access key for your student's pictures, and you will pay shipping to your home address.
