Trojans News
Congrats to our outstanding cast members and staff group behind the "Elf" the musical production. Each show was greatly enjoyed by our students, families, and community. We are so proud of the hard work, and memorable performance from all involved!
Generous parishioners of St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church delivered wrapped toy bundles and clothes for HSSD families in need. Next week, they will complete the donations for each family with food boxes. Thank you to all who contributed to this wonderful effort from St. Mary of the Springs Catholic Church! We are so thankful for those in our Hot Springs community who remind us and set the example for our kids - especially during the holidays - that we are all here to take care of each other. Xpress Boats sponsors Food Donations for HSSD via Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry ... Local partners are helping the HSSD keep Backpack Programs at our six schools, and the food pantry at our Welcome Center, stocked with protein-rich, tasty food items. Xpress Boats and Veranda Luxury Pontoons has again generously sponsored the Wild Game Snack Stick Program through Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry for our school district. Through this program, more than 4,000 snack sticks have been provided,  made from deer meat harvested and processed in Arkansas. Efforts by staff members overseeing Backpack Programs at each of our schools and the Welcome Center will ensure that the snack sticks are distributed to families across Hot Springs.  Read more, here.

Thank you  ZETA CHI  for donating coats, hats, and gloves to our Langston students! ..Items are distributed by Langston personnel to students on an as-needed basis throughout the winter season.

Our Hot Springs World Class High School hosted the 2nd Annual Civics Bowl ... to help 9th grade students prepare for the state-required Civics Exam. This quiz show-style tournament is a fun way to prepare for the exam and fosters teamwork and pride! Our winners this semester are Ashton Harmon, Maddy Goines, Isaac Booth, and Warren Hedrick.
Applications are now open to join the Hot Springs delegation of students and teachers traveling to Hanamaki, Japan in the summer of 2020 - through the Hot Springs Sister City Program. Student applications are due December 21; Teacher applications are due January 7. Find online applications and more details, here.
The shoutout this week goes to our three newly National Board Certified Teachers: Mrs. Anna Jackson (Gardner STEM Magnet School), Mrs. Cheryl Long (Oaklawn Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School), and Mrs. Jan Sligh (Park Magnet, an IB World School). This extremely challenging process takes 1-3 years, and is the highest and most rigorous professional certification that a teacher can earn. Teachers who achieve National Board Certification have met high standards through study, expert evaluation, self-assessment, and peer review. We couldn’t be more proud of these three who have moved through the finish line (and committed countless hours) of this certification process, and who will collectively join others with this same elite certification status in continuing to make our district world class in teaching and student learning.  Read more.
