Trojans News
As their Jr. Beta Club Community Service Project, Gardner STEM Magnet School 4th-6th grade students hosted a local toy drive for the annual Arkansas Children’s Hospital “Festival of Stars” toy and donation drive event. Toys have been donated by students, staff members, and community partners across the HSSD, and placed in bins in the front offices of Gardner STEM and Park Magnet schools. Donations were excitedly delivered on Friday by our kids, alongside those from schools across Arkansas, at a special Festival of Stars Ceremony hosted at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.   Read more, here.
Our Trojan Art Club filled the HSWCHS art room for a festive holiday Paint Party! Mrs. Tipton and students instructed attendees of all ages through a detailed (but fun!) process of creating professional artwork, and treated the group to snacks and music. All proceeds from the event benefit art club members as they showcase their work throughout the year. Thank you for all participants, and congrats to our talented students on an excellent outreach event.
Langston Flower Bed Installed by Garland County Master Gardeners and 4th Grade Stude nts ... Garland County Master Gardeners generously worked with our Langston 4th-5th grade students to complete the planting of a flower bed surrounding the Langston Memorial at the entrance to the new campus on Silver Street. Blue and gold flowers were planted to honor the Langston BullDogs - the mascot of the first Langstonians, before Langston became part of the Hot Springs School District Trojan family. “I am deeply rooted in the Hot Springs School District, and there is no other place I would rather be,” says Mrs. Simms. “I believe in our kids, and I believe in our mission within the Hot Springs community. Our team will continue to serve students and do everything that we can to prepare them for careers and college post graduation. It is an honor to be leading such an outstanding group of educators and students," she says.
Applications are now open to join the Hot Springs delegation of students and teachers traveling to Hanamaki, Japan in the summer of 2020 - through the Hot Springs Sister City Program. Student applications are due December 21; Teacher applications are due January 7. Find online applications and more details, here.
As we kick off December, I want to do a shout out for the spirit of service that is so prevalent across our district. You all are a model for kindness and compassion to our students, and through the year-round service projects that you undertake - especially during the holidays - we are giving them experiences of servanthood that they will never forget. It makes me so proud to be part of a Trojan Family that truly does serve and graciously give back to the Hot Springs community. Trojan Good Things is a weekly shout out from #HSSD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Nehus to individuals in our school community who are doing amazing things! Read more.
