Trojans News
Thank you to all staff members, students, and families who were part of making another HSSD Homecoming a memorable week of celebrating Trojan Tradition.
Congrats to our 2019 Trojan Homecoming King and Queen
Jacoby Weston and Markiah Meadows!
The 4th annual Garland County Reads event was another hugely successful literacy celebration hosted by Garland County school districts in downtown Hot Springs at the Hot Springs Farmers Market. The collaboration is unique from any other literacy celebration across Arkansas, and is well loved and generously supported by the Hot Springs community and area schools. A community that reads together, grows together! Learn more, here.
Our Hot Springs Junior Academy G.R.A.C.E. (Girls Reaching Above Challenging Expectations) group and Principal Natasha Lenox spoke today at the Women’s Leadership Council of Hot Springs Luncheon. Because of a generous grant from the Council, G.R.A.C.E. students have taken multiple field trips and participated in numerous community service events and projects in the Hot Springs area and in Little Rock. Read more, here.
The first meeting of the newly created Superintendent’s Student Council was hosted at Langston Elementary Leadership Academy yesterday with 5th and 6th grade students. The 18 Council members were chosen through nomination by teachers for leadership and speaking skills, good behavior, good grades, and ability to collaborate well with others. Dr. Nehus and administrators will meet with a Superintendent’s Student Council at each school once per quarter throughout the school year. See more, here.
Our Alix Frazier and Logan Comstock will represent the Hot Springs School District on the Hot Springs Area Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council. They are among a select group of students from school districts across the Hot Springs area who meet each month to learn about area non-profit organizations that benefit youth. Community Adult Advisors work with Council members to become better stewards of communities through work in philanthropy and community service. See more, here.
Thank you to HSWCHS and HSJA administrators and staff for meeting your first quarter goal. Both schools had a deadline to submit their essential standards documents. On Wednesday, we surprised both buildings with a celebration in honor of meeting their goals. I also want to pay special tribute to our HSSD Homecoming festivities throughout this week and today. Thank you to all students, staff members, families, and returning alumni for the joy that I sense from you in reflecting about where this district has been, and where we are going in the future.
