As the summer winds down and we usher in Fall and the new academic year, it is with great pride that we present the August issue of our Trojan Sig Foundation Monthly Newsletter. This new publication aims to strengthen our bonds, celebrate our achievements and keep everyone informed about the latest developments with our undergraduate and alumni members of the Alpha Upsilon chapter.
Our fraternity stands on the pillars of Friendship, Justice & Learning (as I’m sure you all remember from the Norman Shield), and through this newsletter, we hope to showcase how these values are being lived out by our members, from alumni updates to next generation Sigma Chis, this newsletter is committed to enhancing and informing the vibrant community we have all built together since our days at USC.
We encourage you to actively participate, share your stories, and stay connected. Your contributions and feedback will be invaluable and welcomed as we strive to make this newsletter a reflection of our collective spirit and brotherhood.
So, here’s to a year filled with growth, camaraderie and memorable moments…

A Very Special Tribute
Only a handful of Sigma Chi chapters have a history book written about them. And now, Alpha Upsilon joins their ranks with its own book: The Proud History of the Trojan Sigs. It’s a fascinating chronicle telling the story of our chapter from its inception in 1889 through today. It took 124 pages of stories and photos to tell this amazing history: from Olympic champions to Hollywood stars, from lesser-known anecdotes to legendary achievements, this book chronicles the dramatic memories, the shared laughter and adventures of the undergraduate and alumni experience that are unique to the Alpha Upsilon chapter of Sigma Chi. And, for the first time ever, we’ve reconstructed a comprehensive list of the Sweethearts of Sigma Chi at USC, spanning many generations of friendship, beauty and class.

Significant Sig and award-winning journalist Jeff Burnside is the author. After a full year of research and writing, it’s ready to publish at the beginning of September. With a foreword by Kerry McCluggage, AU 1976, and a Prologue by Gene Erbstoesser, AU 1970, Burnside's work shows the reader those who came before us, those who helped us become the leaders we are today, and those who will follow in our footsteps...
This new history book will be a gift to major donors of The Four Pillars Capital Campaign and serve as an important rush tool for the undergraduate chapter.

Trojan Sigs Receive the Highest Honor
The 2024 J. Dwight Peterson Significant Chapter Award was presented to only 76 chapters at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada and the Alpha Upsilon chapter received that honor for the second year in a row! Established in 1964, the Peterson Award recognizes chapters that achieve excellence in all operations, including academics, philanthropy, recruitment, and Ritual performance.

The Meaning of Lifelong Friendship and Brotherhood
Ron Winger, 97 years old, and Jim McAleer, 95 years old, two Alpha Upsilon brothers who are still best friends. The two have warm memories of being undergrads in Sigma Chi in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s and living in the new chapter house later called The Old White Hunting Lodge that sat on the location of the present chapter house.

Four Pillars Campaign News
As you probably know, we are actively raising funds to build a new chapter house for Alpha Upsilon at 907 West 28th St., still the largest piece of land on The Row. The existing chapter house (now 65 years old) has served the chapter well but is extremely costly to patch and repair and cannot accommodate the live-in demand. Simply put, it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. Great strides have been made with nearly 35% of our $14,000,000 goal already pledged or donated.
To further our efforts, the Trojan Sig Foundation is proud to announce the addition of Lisa Dulyea as the Executive Director of the Four Pillars Capital Campaign! Lisa is a mission-driven nonprofit leader and fundraising professional, receiving her B.A. at Old Dominion University and a Master’s degree (with honors) at the University of Southern California. Lisa is excited to return to her roots at USC and work with the Trojan alumni of the Sigma Chi Fraternity on this important campaign and we couldn’t be happier that she is joining our team.
The Four Pillars campaign, which includes a $500K endowed scholarship fund for financial assistance to AU undergraduates, has been met with great enthusiasm and support from Sigma Chi alumni (and parents!), but we still have a long way to go. Brothers, this is where you step up. This is where you make history. This is where your name gets added to the growing Donor Roll as one of the men who helped usher the Alpha Upsilon Chapter and its new home into its next proud era. Become a part of our long history and bright future at USC.
