FURNITURE
TROPICALLY INSPIRED
|
Celebrating the sea, sky, and rich foliage, the tropical style evokes a sense of calm and spaciousness. Many cultural influences -- European, African, and Indigenous -- blend to make it truly eclectic. |
Soft neutral hues to pops of bold color, crisp textiles and bold prints, luscious textures, wooden pieces, and natural accents combined make this style flexible, accessible, and easily customizable to anyone's sense of taste and sensibility.
This month we've curated a collection of the best current representations of this style from Tommy Bahama Home's Ocean Breeze collection, Palecek, and a newly added accent furniture and accessory vendor, Ibolili, for your inspiration.
|
The silhouette of Palecek's
Madera Coco Chandelier is fully covered with tiny woven coco beads in a soft white finish. The
Aviana Rope Floor Lamp is replete with Lampakanai rope in a whitewash finish with a white round drum shade and a nickel cylinder finial. Powder coated metal frame hand-woven with slate brown all-weather synthetic rope make the
Nantucket Outdoor Chandelier. The
Colette Table Lamp's hand-cut coconut shell base with natural stone cap will capture your eyes. Make any wall pop with coco shells hand-cut into petal forms on the
Coco Magnolia Sconce.

NARA
Inspired by Japanese design ethos and culture, the
Nara collections are a modern interpretation of the natural world around us.
|
An ethereal aesthetic emanates from the antique documents which inspire many of the designs for both fabric and wall coverings. Patterns are influenced by Japanese architecture, woodcuts and watercolor techniques, and feature traditional motifs taken from kimonos and other enchanting artistry. All blend perfectly with tropically themed decor and furnishings.

RUG SPOTLIGHT
TROPICAL / JUTE
|
Jute: the golden fiber. This shiny, gilded rope has been with us (as a textile material) for over 150 years. Yet, in the past, it has been difficult for the average consumer to source a well-made, stylish, tropical-looking rug without going to a petroleum-based product. Luckily, times are a changing!
|
More and more hand-knotted and hand-woven jute rugs are entering the market, lately. All these decades of working jute have given artisans (mostly in India and Bangladesh) the knowledge to manipulate its fibers into stunning pieces of art, unlike anything we've seen in the past. The culmination of rug weaving history and material science are colliding in the most beautiful of ways.
With the cost of jute going down as production grows, there's no better time to give this miracle of a plant a little space on your floor. There are many pros to a hand-woven, jute rug. Here are several:
- Strong: Jute is one of the strongest natural materials available on the market today! It is also heat- and fire-resistant.
- Very Little Shedding: As viscose and other synthetic materials have become prevalent in the rug world, so too have the complaints of rugs letting go of their fibers
- Persistence of Value: An investment that holds its value exponentially longer than a machine-made rug.
- Sustainable: The beauty of a natural fiber rug (like jute) is accentuated by the fact that the fibers are naturally grown, naturally sustainable, and biodegrade back into nature.
