As part of the island's emergency management plan, KICA and the Town of Kiawah Island issue joint emergency communications to members.

Damage Assessment & Island Cleanup

Tropical Storm Debby has departed our area and Kiawah is celebrating the blue sky! Last night Kiawah received 0.1 inch of rainfall and did not experience damaging winds or storm surge inundation. Now island entities are working together to execute a full assessment of infrastructure and property damage. If damage to personal property is visible from the road, it will be reported and the property owner notified.

Please remember to remain at home during this time so that island cleanup can be executed safely and efficiently. Roads, trails, and boardwalks may not be safe due to flooding and debris.

Another Reason to Stay Home Today:

Alligators and other wildlife get displaced with flooding. They may be in unexpected places.

Reopenings & Modified Operations

Many community entities and local businesses plan to resume normal or modified operations on Friday.

The town's solid waste collection services resume Friday, with the collection of Tuesday's scheduled pickup. The normal collection schedule will resume next week.

Commercial services gate access reopens Friday at 7 a.m. If you need an emergency repair service today, access can be authorized by contacting KICA Security. Property managers are permitted access today (Thursday) at noon to begin checking private properties.

For emergency repair authorization, contact securitysup@kica.us and provide the service provider's name, date and time of arrival, and reason for service.

The Sandcastle's reopening will be phased. Indoor amenities will reopen Friday. The gym opens at 7 a.m. and fitness classes resume. Due to pool cleaning and rebalancing tomorrow, the pools will not reopen until Saturday. All normal operations resume on Saturday.

Thank You to Our Staff

KICA is a team of about 100 individuals. Thank you to each and every employee who prepared us for this storm, risked their safety during the storm, and are helping us now to clean up and reset the island.

Communications

This is KICA's final Tropical Storm Debby notification. In severe weather, KICA provides one email update daily, typically in the late afternoon. Updates are also shared at kica.us/news and on Facebook. You can expect normal communications to resume tomorrow, with KICA's weekly email newsletter. The weekly email newsletter is typically sent on Friday mornings.
