WEDNESDAY, AUG. 30, 2023

As predicted, Kiawah is currently experiencing a king tide (over 9 ft. high tide), in conjunction with storm impacts as Tropical Storm Idalia passes over the area. As we experience this high tide (8:30 p.m.), Kiawah Island Parkway has been closed outside of the main gate due to flooding. Barricades have been placed in the roadway. Please do not attempt to leave or return to the island at this time.

Flooding is Kiawah's biggest concern. With increasing winds, water levels may remain high, even at low tide cycles.

STAY SAFE, STAY HOME

Please stay off of the roads, leisure trails, and boardwalks until noon Thursday. Storm surge inundation can impact all areas of the island, not only ocean, marsh, and riverfront properties. Early tomorrow morning infrastructure will be assessed and debris cleanup will be executed. A high king tide Thursday at 9 a.m. may result in more flooding in the morning.

You can expect another email update on this storm tomorrow after initial damage assessments.
