Volusia County has issued a mandatory evacuation order beginning at 10:00 AM this morning (Wednesday, November 9, 2022) for all residences and businesses that are:


  • East of the Intracoastal Waterway
  • All manufactured and mobile home dwellers east of Interstate 95
  • All low-lying areas and other areas prone to flooding
  • All campsites and RV recreational parks


Evacuees are encouraged to stay with family, friends or an inland hotel and must complete their evacuation by 4:00 PM today (Wednesday, November 9, 2022) because conditions will begin to deteriorate significantly.


Volusia County Schools and Volusia County Government will open four shelters at 10:00 AM today (Wednesday, November 9, 2022).


General population shelters will be opened at:


• Creekside Middle School, 6801 Airport Road, Port Orange

• University High School, 1000 W. Rhode Island Ave., Orange City


Special needs shelters will be opened at:


• Heritage Middle School, 1001 Parnell Court, Deltona

• David C. Hinson Middle School, 1860 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach


All four shelters will accept pets. Those staying at a shelter with their pets must bring necessary pet items and supplies. Additional shelters will be opened if necessary.


Votran will suspend fares Wednesday, November 9th, and Friday, November 11th. Service will run Wednesday but will be suspended at 7:00 PM beachside. Once weather conditions warrant it unsafe to be on the roads, service will be suspended on all Votran routes. Votran will not operate on Thursday, Nov. 10, and will resume on Friday, Nov. 11, weather permitting.


Evacuation points for those seeking transportation to local county shelters will be staged at the following locations, beginning at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 9th.


• Transfer Plaza in Daytona Beach

• Julia and Sams Connection Point in New Smyrna Beach

• Market Place Superstop in Orange City

All non-essential City offices will be closed on both Wednesday (November 9, 2022) and Thursday (November 10, 2022). Offices may remain closed on Friday, November 11, 2022 as well if weather conditions have not improved.


Any utility account shut offs scheduled for the week of November 7, 2022 will be postponed until the week of November 14, 2022.


The City has stocked two locations throughout the City with sand piles.


The piles are located at:


• Fire Station 57 2628 Hibiscus Drive

• Mango Tree Lake 901 Mango Tree Drive


Sand piles are:


• Accessible 24 hours a day

• Residents should bring their own shovels (and bags outside of staffed hours at Mango Tree Lake). The Fire Station 57 location will not be staffed but will be accessible 24 hours per day.

• Bags may also be purchased at local home supply centers or double bagged, heavy duty garbage bags may be used.

While both City forces and contracted debris haulers have been working diligently and continue picking up both vegetative and construction/demolition debris, there remains a great deal of debris from Hurricane Ian throughout the community.


At this time, the debris haulers are unable to work due to wind gusts exceeding 20 MPH. Residents are asked to place any lighter construction and demolition debris under heavier debris as a precaution.


Normal trash pick-ups scheduled for Thursday (November 10, 2022) will be picked up on Friday (November 11, 2022).


Normal trash pick-ups scheduled for Friday (November 11, 2022) will be picked up on Saturday (November 12, 2022).



Normal recycling scheduled to picked up on Friday (November 11, 2022) will be picked up that day, weather permitting.


The November 9, 2022 Planning and Zoning Board meeting has been postponed. 


The November 10, 2022 Hurricane Ian Response and Recovery Public meeting has been postponed as well. 


The November 10, 2022 Code Enforcement/Special Magistrate meeting has been postponed.


Rescheduled dates will be announced when available.

 

Stormwater and street infrastructure continue to be assessed to ensure all are functioning as designed. Residents are asked to report any visible obstruction or debris in stormwater canals or ponds by:

The City’s stormwater system is a gravity based system. The wastewater/sewer system relies on a series of pumps at lift stations throughout the City. These pumps are solely intended to pump wastewater/sewer back to the wastewater plant on Mango Tree Drive.

The fishing piers at all riverfront parks (George R. Kennedy Memorial, Menard May and Veterans) will be closed effective immediately.

The Animal Shelter will be closed until at least Friday (November 11, 2022)


If you find a lost pet, please call Dispatch at 386-424-2000 option 4.


Please do not bring found pets to the shelter we will be unable to accept intakes that do not come in from Animal Control or the Police Department.


Please keep your pets inside and safe during the upcoming inclement weather. When they go outside, accompany them, and please be sure they are wearing a collar with identification in the event they escape.
