MONITORING TROPICAL STORM NICOLE

The Kiawah Island Community Association, Town of Kiawah Island and Charleston County Emergency Management officials are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole.

BE ADVISED

Tropical Storm Nicole is forecast to make landfall on the east coast of Florida early Thursday morning as a Category 1 hurricane. Although the storm’s track is still uncertain, the current model suggests the storm will pass over central South Carolina on Friday as a tropical depression. 

According to the National Weather Service, Kiawah will see the most significant impacts Thursday and Friday. Tropical storm-force winds (39-73 mph), storm surge inundation (3-6 ft. above ground level), tornados, rip currents and coastal flooding are possible. Two to three inches of rainfall is expected. Kiawah is under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Storm Surge Watch.

BEGIN PREPARATIONS

Residents and property owners are advised to monitor local media, and begin to prepare their property or make contact with their property managers. Secure garbage receptacles, outdoor furniture, and personal property.

The town and community association are coordinating island preparations in the event that our area would be directly affected. KICA has proactively closed all drainage outfalls to incoming tide, cleaned out problematic storm drains and is staging water pumps in susceptible locations.
