NEW ORLEANS - The
United Teachers of New Orleans (UTNO) and the
Louisiana Federation of Teachers (LFT) have both endorsed Troy Carter in the race for State Senate District 7. He has also received the endorsement of the
Forum for Equality. Carter adds these important endorsements to a long and growing list of community organizations supporting his candidacy, including the Democratic Party in both Orleans and Jefferson parishes, the Alliance for Good Government, the AFL-CIO, and the IWO.
Asked to comment on the endorsements, Carter said, "Education is one of the issues I'm very passionate about. It's the key to so many locked doors of opportunity for people in our community. A decent society owes it to every child to ensure a solid education and opportunities for a good career. For many years, that's been the goal I've worked towards, and it will remain my one central focus points as a senator."
Carter has a strong track record as a public servant and small business owner for over 25 years. He has served as a state representative and city council member. A native of the West Bank, Carter has a deep commitment to the community. He has sponsored an annual Thanksgiving Dinner for 23 years and also leads toy drives and a school supply giveaway every year for students in need.
He is a graduate of O. Perry Walker, Xavier University of Louisiana, Harvard's JFK School of Government, and the Carnegie-Mellon School of Urban and Public Affairs.
