Thank you to all our members and State Police for joining us!
FHWA Inspection vs. Louisiana Inspection
Clarity on recent questions regarding trucking tags

We want to make sure that everyone is aware of the guidelines around the FHWA versus Louisiana tag. Please see the information below per the Louisiana State Police.

  • For interstate commerce, it is an either/or situation. You do not have to get both FHWA and the Louisiana tag. For intrastate commerce, you only need the Louisiana tag.
  • All Louisiana registered commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) subject to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations can obtain a Louisiana Commercial Motor Vehicle inspection and/or a periodic/annual inspection. A Louisiana Commercial Motor Vehicle inspection satisfies the requirements of 49 CFR 396.17 (Appendix G) for both the truck and the trailer.

Captain Jackson did ask that if any of you have had problems in the past being given a citation from an officer for not having both for interstate commerce to please forward it to him so he can educate his officers. (Captain Jackson's information is in the link)

MISSISSIPPI - Weight restriction modified on Interstate 55 Bridge

The I-55 bridge was recently inspected, and the inspection documented deterioration in the concrete box girders near the supports. A further in-depth inspection and analysis showed the deterioration is due to overload and the bridge needs to be load posted until repairs can be made.

Therefore, the following load restriction has been imposed on Bridge No. 93.1 located over Interstate 20 westbound in Rankin County:

  • 21 Tons H Truck
  • 24 Tons HS Short Truck
  • 27 Tons HS Long Truck

Signs are in place to alert motorists of the load restriction. View a detailed map of all bridge postings HERE.

LA Workforce Commission CDL Apprenticeship Program
Inquiry to Louisiana-based trucking companies

LMTA is working with the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) to close the gap on CDL drivers. The LWC has set up an apprenticeship program and plans to direct funding toward CDL programs. The Workforce Commission is interested in any Louisiana-based trucking companies that hire drivers straight out of school.

We understand that most trucking companies are hindered from doing this for insurance purposes, but want to reach out to the hand full who do.

If you are a trucking company that hires drivers out of school, can you please contact Renee Amar and let her know. Your company might be interested and benefit from participating in the apprenticeship program. There are no guarantees on anyone’s part - the LWC wants to coordinate the best way to get more highly trained drivers into our family-owned, local companies.
