Trunk-or-Treat and Chili Cook-Off

this Sunday!

It’s hard to believe our Trunk-or-Treat and Chili Cook-Off is almost here! All are welcome to join us at First Baptist this Sunday, October 25, for our Fall Festival!

It’s a big day at FBC, with an ecumenical concert happening earlier that afternoon, so I hope you’re ready for a wonderful day together!

Here’s a quick look at the evening’s schedule, followed by more information about each part of the event.

  • 4:00–4:45 PM: Cars arrive and decorate their trunks. The gated playground will be open for children.
  • By 5:15 PM: Chili entries must be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall. Chili participants will then head back outside until the doors open.
  • 5:00–5:30 PM: Trunk-or-Treat
  • 5:30 PM: Fellowship Hall opens, and the Chili Cook-Off begins!
  • Around 5:35 PM: Parade of Costumes
  • 6:30 PM: Chili Cook-Off winners and the Golden Pumpkin winner announced!

Trunk-or-Treat Info

If you’re decorating a trunk and handing out candy, please arrive between 4:00 and 4:45 PM to give yourself time to set up. We want to make sure all cars are parked and decorated before children begin trick-or-treating, so cars will not be allowed to move through the Trunk-or-Treat area once the event begins.

We’ll line up in the back parking lot spaces near the Presbyterian church. If you’re attending but not passing out candy, please park in the visitor or staff spaces or the first row of numbered spaces.

For those decorating trunks with children, the gated playground will be open while vehicles are arriving and setting up.

Trunk-or-Treat runs from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. To make sure all our kids have time to collect way too much candy before Halloween, we ask that everyone handing out candy stay at their cars until 5:30!

Even if you aren’t decorating a trunk, we highly encourage everyone participating in the Chili Cook-Off to bring a bowl of candy to share. I’ll have a few extra bowls available if you need one.

And don’t forget: the best-decorated trunk wins the coveted Golden Pumpkin!

Below are the spaces where you will park if you are setting up your trunk.

Chili Cook-Off Info

If you’re participating in the Chili Cook-Off, please bring your entry to the Fellowship Hall by 5:15 PM. Chili will be judged blind, with the congregation serving as our judges!

We’ll also have corn dogs and cheese rolls, plus candy for dessert, obviously!

After dropping off your chili, please head back outside until the Fellowship Hall officially opens at 5:30 PM.

If you plan to bring chili and haven’t let me know yet, please reply to this email so we can make sure we have enough electrical outlets for everyone’s crockpots!

You’re also encouraged to bring a muffin tin to make sampling all the chili entries easier.

Other Info

In the Fellowship Hall, we’ll have crafts and games for everyone to enjoy. The entrance to the playground area will be open from inside the Fellowship Hall, too. Please note that the playground will not be supervised by our staff, so parents and caregivers will need to keep an eye on their children.

We’ll kick off the Chili Cook-Off with a Parade of Costumes around the Fellowship Hall at approximately 5:35 PM, so get those costumes ready!

I’m looking forward to a fun evening of costumes, candy, chili, and community. Thanks to everyone who is helping make this event happen. I can’t wait to celebrate with you all!

See you Sunday!
