March 28, 2020

Members & Guests of the Truro Golf Club,
I hope that everyone is keeping well during these times of uncertainty as we all try to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  As stated in previous communications, the Medical Officer of Health, under section 32 of the Health Protection Act of 2004 has mandated the closure of all golf courses in Nova Scotia.

Please see section 19 of the order which states: Effective March 23rd, 2020, all golf courses must close during the period this Order remains in effect.

In the interest of staff, and member/guest safety and following Nova Scotia Government policy, the Truro Golf Club will remain closed while the Order remains in effect, including the grounds of the course for walking, skiing and other activities.

The Truro Golf Club Board has discussed early COVID-19 concerns via telephone conference, and are going to do a follow up call to discuss changes as policies and practices are changing quickly.

To help ensure social distancing and reducing the need for members and guests to visit the facility, Memberships and Club Services may still be purchased via email, mail or phone voicemail. If using one of these options, please be sure to include your selection for your Early Bird item (Choice of One: 18 Hole Green Fee Pass, 18 Hole Power Cart Token, or 10 Driving Range Tokens).

The grounds of the club will continue to be maintained when possible as weather improves utilizing essential grounds staff which is Caralynn and Mark only for the time being.  Essential maintenance as necessary is acceptable and will require some additional staff as weather improves. Only essential maintenance will be done until we know more about what the spring will bring with COVID-19.

As our golf season approaches, I am sure there are questions mounting with regards to how COVID-19 will affect the season.  Before phoning or emailing, please refer to the below FAQs section to see if your question may already be answered.

In the meantime, this is a great time to be thinking about your game - strategy, technique, equipment needs, practice routines, etc.  Sometimes a little mental preparation or change of mindset can have huge influences on your game....

Until we know more, take care and keep well!

F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions):
1. When will the Golf Course Open for play? And what will that look like?

• Our plan is always to open as soon as possible given weather and temperature and now we need to consider the current COVID-19 situation.  We typically open between April 20th -28th so we are still three to four weeks away from our usual open date, but give, the uncertainty of what the coming weeks will bring, we are currently unable to give a set date for opening, or what play will look like for the Truro Golf Club.

• Again, it is difficult to predict what the coming weeks will bring, but I believe it is safe to say that there will be necessary changes to staffing, daily play practices, check-in and club services to name a few.  I am sure many of you have seen examples of this (more time between tee times, not removing pins, raised cups so the ball won't fall in the hole, one rider per power cart, no club push carts, no ball washers/rakes,F&B services shut down or very limited, arriving for tee times no more then 15 minutes before your tee time, not gathering on practice greens/staying in your vehicle until your tee time, clubhouse access limited, etc).

As things evolve, the Truro Golf Club Board and Management will work on practices that are necessary and practical when we know what is relevant at that time.

2. What is Truro Golf Club doing about seasonal staff?

• With uncertainty on how things will evolve, seasonal staff have been notified that our open date has not been set and are on hold at this time.  Only necessary, year-round managerial positions are working at this time. Seasonal staff have already been advised to remain on or apply for Employment Insurance and other government options designated for COVID-19.

3. What about Truro Golf Club's event business?

• Early COVID-19 concerns had already cancelled or postponed events in March and April and are now affecting May and June bookings. Many of our corporate clients and wedding receptions are looking to book alternative dates in the fall as we do not know what will happen in the coming weeks.  We are very grateful for all of our supportive annual corporate clients whose events are a necessary part of the sustainability of the Truro Golf Club. We will do what we to try to make things work for these clients and the Truro Golf Club.

4. What about Truro Golf Club's activities, Club Leagues, Junior Programming and events?

We are still preparing for events and club tournaments as usual, but may need to re-evaluate logistics as we get more up-to-date information.  Adaptations and modifications will be implemented as necessary to keep as many of these running as possible.
