Trustee Education Series
The MHLS Trustee Education Series has been designed using the Helping All Trustees Succeed (HATS) Curriculum. HATS was created thanks to a collaboration of key players in the New York library community: The State Library, the Library Trustee Association of New York (LTA), the New York Library Association (NYLA) and the Public Library Systems Directors Organization (PULISDO), were joined by hundreds of trustees and library directors from around New York State to help shape the content.

Marlboro Free Library is celebrating "Pi Day" with a Pie Making Competition! The library took this opportunity to cross promote, the online learning platform Universal Class , by highlighting its Pie Baking class. Universal Class provides online continuing education courses in over 30 subject areas, many of which offer continuing education units (CEUs) and is available to any patron with an Ulster County library card.
Resource Sharing & Sierra
Sierra & Encore Upgrades: Last week the scheduled upgrade for Sierra was rolled out and due to some unexpected issues the Encore upgrade was also rolled out to fix some of those unexpected issues.
New features in Sierra release 4.2 include the ability for staff to place new title-level holds using information from a cancelled hold, and insert that hold either at the end of the hold queue or in order by the original hold's placed date; an option command link to allow libraries to publish a privacy policy in their WebPAC screens; adding an option to select a default Create Lists view so that each user can set their own default and more! Below is a brief summary of the "unexpected" issues and where we are with the resolution.
Encore "My Account" not displaying
Issue: Patron "My Account" link does not display after patron logs in, resulting in no access to view the account. Background: Security was not synced up between Sierra 4.2 and the particular bundle of the Encore 4.7 release that we were on. Resolved: We upgraded to the newer Encore release 4.8 that was newly available and known not to have the conflict.
Encore E-commerce was disabled
Issue: A test payment did not process and the system replaced the "Pay Online" button with a message that says "Online fine payments cannot be processed. Please try again later." Background: Innovative restarted the services, which corrected the view in most instances, but we do still have examples where the "Pay Online" is temporarily unavailable. Resolved with exceptions: We are working with Innovative to share exceptions to find a solution. The option is showing in most cases, but so far we haven't been able to pinpoint why it isn't consistent across all attempts.
Receipts and notices not printing
Issue: Sierra would not print receipts when closing a record and other notices could not be sent. Background: Custom print templates with images have the images stored separately on the Sierra server and are linked in the template through a URL. Upgrading the security to https (encrypted) requires changing the URLs in the template to "https" Resolved : MHLS staff have updated all templates to the new format.
