Greetings!
Proverbs thirty-one is a popular chapter of scripture that is used to teach women about what a Godly woman looks like. These scriptures are so popular that there are entire ministries named after them. But I wanted to ask you if you have read these scriptures lately?
Proverbs 31 describes her in Verse 10 as virtuous and that her worth is far more than rubies. In v. 12 she does her husband good and not evil all the days of her life. She willingly works with her hands; she rises up while it is yet night and provides food for her household. She is a businesswoman, she is a mother, she is an excellent cook, she has great children, her husband praises her. She sounds perfect. One more thing, V. 27 says she does not eat the bread of idleness. I know why she doesn’t eat the bread of idleness because when does she have time to eat? In between buying a field, planting a vineyard, making clothes, cooking at the crack of dawn. Strength and honor are her clothing, but let me tell you, exhaustion is her undergarment. I don’t know how she does it all in 2025! These scriptures are hard for us to measure up.
For years, I have read these scriptures and have been in awe of the virtuous woman and really tried to be her. But after the hamster got knocked off the wheel a couple of times (that hamster being yours truly), in my failure, I learned that I missed the most important part of these scriptures.
The most important part of Proverbs Chapter 31 is verse 30 --- A woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.
We need more women who fear the Lord more than we need another influencer, content creator, or model figure.
Why? Because we are living in the last days.
Isaiah, who lived in a remarkably similar time as we are, he asked in Chapter 50, “Are there any among you who fears the Lord and listens to his servant?”
I find myself asking that same question, “Does anyone fear the Lord?”
This nation needs salvation. The fabric of our society needs rebuilding. In order for this to happen, the church needs an awakening. It’s never too late for a new beginning.
In order for this nation to be rebuilt and return to its love for the truth, the Lord must get a hold of us in our churches. In order for the Lord to get a hold of us in our churches, He must a get a hold of us in our homes. Before The Lord gets a hold of us in our homes, He must get a hold of us in our hearts.
Your heart is the crucible in which a mighty move of God can be birthed. Your heart is essential to the work of God that needs to be done in the rebuilding of the moral fabric of this nation.
The time that we are living in reminds me of when Nehemiah goes back to a ransacked Jerusalem to rebuild the walls around the city after it had been desolate for 70 years of Babylonian captivity.
This was his prayer.
“Oh Lord, I pray, please let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who desire to fear your name.”
Proverbs 1:7 declares, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Until we understand who God is and develop a reverential fear of Him, we cannot have true wisdom.
Fearing God means having a reverence for Him that greatly impacts the way we live. Our actions reflect what we believe. The fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe.
Like I said before, your heart is the crucible in which a mighty move of God can be birthed. Your heart is essential to the work of God that needs to be done in the rebuilding of the moral fabric of this nation.
I ask you to pray this over your heart this month. Teach me your way, O Lord: I will walk in Your truth. Unite my heart to fear your name. Psalm 86:11
Until next time,
