Tsuktor Namgyalma Prayer Flags

A Dharani is a long mantra often combined with an invocation of a Deity, and drawn in a mandala pattern. The deity, named Tsuktor Namgyalma (Ushnishavijaya in Sanskrit), is one of the special long-life deities of Buddhism in Tibet, China, Japan and Malasia. Her mantra is an exceptionally powerful Dharani for clearing away obstacles, sickness, stress and negativity. It promotes well-being, success and spiritual attainment. Our Tsuktor Namgyalma prayer flags display this Dharani.

According to Buddhist teachings, the Dharani of Namgyalma has profound benefits. It purifies negative karma and liberates beings from the lower realms. Shakyamuni Buddha taught the benefits of the Namgyalma mantra to the Four Direction Guardian Kings. Place these prayer flags on a mountain or in your yard and the whole environment becomes blessed, benefiting all the humans, animals and insects. All who are touched by the wind passing through the flag or even by the flag’s shadow are said to be purified of negativity, protected from the eight great fears and from rebirth in the lower realms

SET OF 5 TSUKTOR NAMGYALMA PRAYER FLAGS

We've been making vertical Tsuktor Namgyalma prayer flags for flagpoles for a few years. Because the writing on the flags is so detailed, the flags have to be large (2 foot square) for the printing to be clear. Horizontal prayer flags on rope a generally smaller, but the Dharani design is so striking that I thought I'd offer some on rope. For now, we'll sew them in sets of 5. If there's a demand, we'll offer sets of 10 and 25.

Bearer of the Crown of Victory

Homage to the blessed One, most excellent Lord of the three worlds.

Homage to the Enlightened One

Om! Purify, completely purify!

To the One who radiates boundless light,

And who’s nature is pure and vast as the sky,

Initiate us, Sugata, into the teachings of immortal Tathagatas (Buddhas); the initiation of the Great Symbol of Ultimate Truth.

Holder of eternal life, purify, completely purify, pure like the sky.

You who are the crowned-head of Victory,

Completely liberated and shining with a thousand rays of light.

You are Lord of all the Buddhas, perfected in the six paramitas.

Mother of all the Enlightened Ones,

Fully established in the 10th Bhumi of spiritual power.

The heart essence of the Tathagatas,

Emanating the blessing of Mahamudra, the Great Seal.

With your diamond-like vajra nature, purify us of all karmic defilements.

Bless us with the vows of all the Buddhas.

OM! Sage, Great Sage, Highest of all Sages!

All knowing, compassionate, pure nature,

Purifying the depths of mind and reality,

Victorious, completely victorious!

Remember, remember!

Radiate Buddha Nature, the purity of the Awakened Ones.

The Great Vajra, the Essence of indestructibility, the Essence of Victory!

Arisen from the Unborn, Born of Indestructibility, you are Unceasing.

May my body become vajra-like.

May all sentient beings be forever pure, through all our lives, forever pure.

May the blessings of the Buddhas comfort me!

OM! Awakened One, Realized One,

Awaken, fully awaken, liberate, total liberation,

Purify, totally pure, completely free!

You who are the of the nature of light, totally pure, abiding in the heart of all Buddhas!

OM! Symbol, Great Symbol (mahamudra)

Mahamudra Mantra, so be it!

Deities in Buddhism are not external beings. They represent enlightened qualities of our own essential nature. Devotion to these deities is for the purpose of manifesting the qualities in our world for our well-being and for the benefit of others.

Namgyalma (Ushnishavijaya) is seated, the lotus position of the Buddhas, symbolizing her purity and enlightenment. Her three heads represent her ability to cure all illnesses and eliminate obstacles in the three realms. Her eight arms and middle face are white, conveying her power to put an end to disasters. Her blue face shows her wrath in slaying demons, and her yellow face represents her power to grant longevity. Her third eye on her forehead reflects her compassion, desire, and ability to see all suffering. Her nine eyes shows she has perfected the nine stages of enlightenment and is able to lead beings to liberation. Namgyalma wears a five-pointed crown to represent the wisdom of the five Dhyani Buddhas.

The double Dorje in her first right hand represents total internal and outer harmony. Her second right hand, holding Buddha Amitabha seated on a white lotus, promises that at death, her devotees will ascend to Amitabha’s Pure Land of Sukhavati (Great Bliss). The arrow in her third right hand represents the perceptive wisdom that illuminates the ultimate truth. Her fourth right hand is in the mudra of supreme generosity.

Her first left-hand holds a vajra lasso, signifying mastery of mind control. Her second left hand holds a bow, which, when used with great focus, enables the arrow of wisdom to strike its target. Her third left hand is in the mudra of offering protection, while her fourth holds a long-life vase filled with healing elixirs of immortality.

February's Free Drawing

This 12 in x 12" woodblock print on rice paper is a Protection Yantra of some kind. I'm sorry to say that I'm not sure what it specifically protects from; something bad, you can be sure. At any rate, it's a pleasing design. If anyone knows what it is, please let me know and I'll post it in the next newsletter.

If you'd like a chance to win this print, email me your name and address to prayerflags2@gmail.com.

Please don't forget to include your mailing address.

This Month's Practice and Naga Offering Calendar

(See our website for more information about Naga Offerings and Prayer Flag Ceremonies)

This is the last month of the Tibetan year, At this time, Nagas are guarding and holding their treasures. If you make offerings to them on a Naga Offering day, they will come under your command and will grant you your wishes. If you disturb them by make offerings to them on any other day, then no matter how good your offering is, they will think it is bad and here will be no result.

During the last month of the year, the best days to make offerings to the Nagas are February 7 (Guru day) and February 13th.

Customers sent us very nice photos. I really appreciate being able to share them with you.

Although the top two photo have been in our archives for a while, I'm showing them again because they are Tsuktor Namgyalma prayer flags that are being featured this month. The lower one was a special order 10 print (2 print x 5 print) flag.
