Tucker First UMC News
August 8, 2020
Our special Sunday night worship last week was a great success. Attendees went home with communion bread, or the ingredients to make communion bread, as well as grape juice. All elements had been consecrated. Thankful to everyone who participated and especially our youth praise band who provided the music.

Sunday Night Live! Begins August 16
  • Does the pandemic have you feeling stuck in the mundane?

  • Are you longing for a new way to worship?

  • Do you wish you could just snap your fingers and COVID-19 would disappear?

Well, we can't help you with that last one. But we are thrilled to announce a new worship experience at Tucker First that will hopefully help with the first two!

Join us for Sunday Night Live at The Table, a 30-minute Facebook Live service of modern music and meditation. Host a watch party! Chat with your church friends! Enjoy amazing music from The Table! It's the perfect way to end the weekend and get refreshed for a new week. See you there! Questions? Contact Anne Cumings at anne.cumings@tfumc.org.

Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America By Michael Eric Dyson

Join us for an eight-week outdoor book group on race relations in America. Written through the eyes of a black, Baptist preacher, Tears We Cannot Stop uses the structure of a worship service to guide through a discussion on racial reckoning and reconciliation.

The book study, led by Rev. Anne Cumings, will take place under the portico at the church.

Please RSVP to Anne Cumings at anne.cumings@ngumc.org. Books can be purchased by clicking on the graphic..
Volunteers Needed for Video,
Graphic, and Post-Production Work
No experience necessary! This is a great way to get involved at Tucker First, especially if you like behind the scenes work.

Randy Davison is an amazing volunteer that has been at the forefront of the worship videos you see every week as well as leading the team of volunteers involved with the Sanctuary sound board (when we worship in-person together). He will be leading a training for all those interested in videotaping, developing pre- and post- graphics for the online video, and helping with the sound board when we are back worshiping together.

If you are interested in being part of the audio visual ministry at Tucker First, please contact Stephanie Shanholtzer at sshanholtzer@tfumc.org.
Dr. Mike Cash is Retiring
After many years of faithful ministry, Dr. Mike Cash is retiring. His current church, Trinity-on-the-Hill, is gathering “Mike Cash Stories” to put together for his retirement. If you would like to contribute a story, please send an email directly to the retirement coordinators at Trinity-on-the-Hill, Allison Jones at ajones@trinityonthehill.net or Kat McCully at kmccully@trinityonthehill.net. Deadline is August 15.
Opportunities to Volunteer
Sewing Challenge Has Been Made!
Thank you to the lovely lady in our church who has completed thirty masks! She has set the bar high for the rest of the sewers. Who can rise to meet this challenge!

Masks help us stay safe as we gather together again. We are looking for volunteers to sew reusable fabric face masks for our church family to use when we return to in-person service

If you don't sew but want to help, feel free to donate cotton fabric! You can contact Emma Vautrot to join the effort or to donate at 706-936-4863 or emma.kemnitz@gmail.com.
Where Are the Volunteer and
Service Opportunities?
The needs of our community and the activities of the mission committee are vast and due to the number of ads and stories, we have once again moved the mission messages to a separate email.

Our mission team has many opportunities for you to volunteer through donations or in-person assistance. Whether you are staying at home or are comfortable getting out, there is an opportunity for you.

Can't wait? Check out the volunteer needs for missions by going to:
