We Are a
Connectional Church
This past Sunday, Mimi Sanders commanded everyone's attention as she spoke during her Communion Workshop at Acworth UMC (outdoor amphitheater). The workshop was a part of the Faith Stepping Stones series of family workshops.

The workshops are hosted by Tucker First UMC, Acworth UMC, Marietta First UMC, McEachern Memorial UMC and Northbrook UMC.

Tucker First News and Notes
Meal Train for Garnett Halstead
Garnett has fallen and broken her hip. As she recovers from surgery, a meal train has been set up for her. You can volunteer to take a meal or donate a gift card by clicking on the Meal Train graphic.
Health & Welfare Committee Update
After careful consideration, the Health and Welfare Committee is excited to recommend the return of congregational singing in both our worship services beginning Sunday, July 11. Singing is a significant part of the worship experience for many congregants and, as long as community COVID-19 data remains favorable, we are eager to hear the joyful noise!

Right now, the committee's plans include singing from everyone in the worship services. However, we would like to hear your thoughts about congregational singing in the mask-required and physically distanced sections.

Please take a moment to complete this short anonymous survey to let us know what you think: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PTT2SJW
Tucker First is looking for volunteers to help in the church front office. Volunteers are needed Monday – Thursday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Most volunteers serve one day every other week. We also have a substitute volunteer list called when the regular volunteer is unavailable.

Duties include answering and directing calls and answering the office door for members, visitors, and maintenance workers. Monday’s volunteers help with attendance entry on the computer (not a requirement to volunteer) and Thursday volunteers help stuff the bulletins for Sunday worship. If you are interested, please contact Stephanie Shanholtzer at sshanholtzer@tfumc.org and she will put you on the volunteer list and arrange training.
Red Chapel Hymnals Available
Tucker First has a surplus of red cover hymnals (originally used in the Chapel). They are being offered to the congregation for a $2 donation. Both worship services are using the blue cover hymnals. The Chapel hymnals will be available in the Gathering Room before and after services. All proceeds go to support The Table worship ministry.
Braves Trip Cancelled
Unfortunately, not enough people signed up for the outing to the Braves game to qualify for a group rate on tickets. The event has been cancelled.
Ushers and Greeters Brighten Sundays
Do you have the spiritual gift of hospitality? Use your gift to welcome our members and guests to worship by volunteering as a greeter or usher. The tasks are very straightforward, and you never miss any of the worship service!

If you are interested in being an usher, contact Rob Bloomquist at robbobl@comcast.net.

If you are interested in being a greeter, click on the button below depending on your preferred service. You may also volunteer by emailing Dara Duggan at daraduggan@gmail.com.
Mission Opportunities
Tucker First's Annual Great Day of Service will be on Saturday, September 25 from 8:00 am – 12:30 pm. On this day, multiple teams will tackle projects in the community to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors. A team breakfast starting at 8:00 am is included.

Teams of 6-25 people will work on each mission project. Some of the organizations that will benefit include Wellroot Family Services, Tucker Parks and Recreation, UMCOR, local nursing homes, and DeKalb County Fire and Rescue.

Come out for one great day to help our community. No experience necessary. There will be a project to which you, your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers can contribute their time and talent. Age, activity level, and experience do not matter; we have a project for you! Free childcare will be provided for children eight years old and younger.

Registration information will be posted on the church website in August. Questions? Contact Ellen Griffith, ellen.griffith@yahoo.com or Becky Burnett, rsb1950@gmail.com
Every Bucket Counts
One the many Great Day of Service projects will be to assemble flood buckets for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). The flood buckets contain much needed supplies that area used by volunteer cleaning teams.

Help our mission team have enough supplies to assemble the buckets in September by collecting our "Flood Bucket Item of the Week" each week. See breakout box below.

Please note: the list of items for the flood buckets is extremely specific because they all must fit neatly into the bucket. You can order an item or a series of items from the Flood Bucket Amazon Wish List by clicking on the graphic. Please ship all supplies to the church office.

If you wish to purchase items locally, the bucket supply list is located HERE. You can drop your item donation off in the lobby outside the church office or in the bin in the Gathering Room.

Our Tucker First UMC Vacation Bible School children have already given this project a head start by collecting cleaning supplies during VBS. We are incredibly grateful for their efforts.
Flood Bucket
Item of the Week
One way that we are collecting supplies for the flood buckets is by having a "Flood Bucket Item of the Week" By focusing on a specific item to collect, it will help our mission team have enough supplies to assemble the buckets in September.
The flood bucket item for this week is

Bug Repellent

One 6-14 oz. pump spray insect repellent (pack of 10-20 wipes also acceptable). All pump spray bottles must have protective covers.

The Tucker First Weekday Preschool has openings for two teachers beginning with the fall term. If you, or someone you know, has a heart for children and would like to be part of a preschool ministry, please contact Director Marti Coleman at preschool@tfumc.org.
This position is perfect for a parent of school-aged children who needs a part-time job and still be available after school or for a retired educator who still wants to pour into children, but not full-time.
Did you know that you can download a weekly Spotlight from the Tucker First website?

The Spotlight includes a lot of the information found in the weekly newsletter, but also includes current prayer requests, weekly church calendar, and prayer emphasis. The spotlight is also easily printable for sharing.

Click on the graphic to go directly to the home page of the website and then click on Sunday News Spotlight.
The church office will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
