What is "Do Something September?"
"Do Something September" is an initiative from our mission committee that highlights activities and mission projects that you or your family can do on your own schedule throughout the month of September and by doing so, support local organizations and ministries. You can pick a mission project that interests you and volunteer. It is that simple.
This is a community-wide effort and there are suggestions for all types of people (persons who shelter-in-place, donate items at local drop off, or serve-in-person, etc.). You can do as much or as little as you like to your level of comfort.

Share the News With Your Friends

We will highlight some of mission projects in this email, but we encourage you to check out all the activities for "Do Something September" by going to the church website at
On the website, you can also download a flyer of all the activities to share with your friends, neighbors, and civic groups. There is also a great video about the "Do Something September" projects.

Participate in a Community Night of Awareness
No one person, congregation, or denomination can do everything. Each of us can do something to help in the fight! According to the CDC, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually exploited by age eighteen. Please join Tucker First UMC, along with Street Grace, for an online "Community Night of Awareness,” on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm.
This free program will focus on how you can help eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of children in our communities. Local law enforcement will provide updates and there will be an opportunity for questions and answers. Street Grace is a faith-driven organization collaborating with faith, business and community leaders as well as providing a comprehensive path to end the sexual exploitation of minors.

Health Kits for the Homeless
Pre-made health kits are needed for our local homeless population. These kits contain necessary items that many of us take for granted and we invite you to make some kits in September. Items in the kits should include: toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap, wash rag, mask, hand sanitizer, and socks. Place all items in a gallon Ziploc bag. We would prefer that you create a minimum of ten health kits so that our volunteers are picking up at least ten kits (instead of just one kit).
When your kits are completed, please sign up for a pickup by using this signup sheet - https://tinyurl.com/healthkits2020. Someone will come and pick up your kits. The completed health kits will be delivered to the DeKalb Police Department, Tucker Precinct and also the Trinity Soup Kitchen in downtown Atlanta.
