A SPIRIT OF ADDICTION

Alcohol, nicotine, and drugs are known for creating addictions in people. An addiction, whatever it may be, makes you a slave to the addictive substance. It is more than just a physical issue. It has a spiritual source. 

Everything that is physical has its origin from the spiritual realm. God is a Spirit; He created everything that is physical, so all things physical came from the spirit realm.

An addiction to anything originates from the spiritual realm. The root of the addiction comes from a demonic source. Teen Challenge© has been successful because it deals with the spiritual causes of addictions. Dealing with addictions from a purely physical point of view has a poor track record. It needs to be dealt with at its spiritual root through deliverance from the demonic oppression.

Take a tobacco smoker who quits as an example. He is not delivered. One cigarette can put him right back into the addiction. Likewise, an alcoholic, or drug addict who quits would be addicted again if they go back to it even once. The reason for this is that they never had a spiritual deliverance. Their “quitting” was only done through the flesh and the soul (mind, will, emotions).

Remember, everything in the physical realm had its origin in the spiritual realm. How is that? It is because God is a spirit, and He created all things that are visible and invisible. They were created by the invisible power of the Holy Spirit.

Albert Einstein proved the relation scientifically with the relationship between matter and energy. The formula is E=MC². E represents energy; M is physical matter; and C is a constant ratio unique to the physical matter.

The Holy Spirit is not matter. He is power or energy. He gives “life energy, or power.” However, since matter and energy are two forms of the same thing, energy from the spirit realm can impact the physical in a positive or negative way. The negative way can cause addictions or diseases. Likewise, the power or energy from the Holy Spirit can overcome addictions or diseases.

God supplies His positive power [energy] by connecting our human spirit with the Holy Spirit by faith to bring physical wellness to our body.

In Genesis chapters 1-3, we see God moving upon the earth by the power of the Holy Spirit that created all living things. That same power is available to every believer to overcome addictions through God’s word and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

THE SEED PART 9

MOSES PART 3 – BACK TO EGYPT

After Moses fled Egypt to keep from being killed, he sojourned in Midian as a shepherd serving his father-in-law, Jethro, also called Reuel for forty years. He had plenty of time to think about his life. 

Moses led the sheep to the backside of the desert and came to the mountain of God, Mt. Horeb, also known as Mt. Sinai. An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire inside a bush, but the bush did not burn. As he turned to look God called his name. “…Moses, Moses.” [Exodus 3:4b] God told him that it was holy ground where he stood and to take off his shoes. Then he said in Exodus 3:6, “Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”

Then God called Moses to leadership. He reveals his name as Jehovah [I am that I am] and told Moses he was to go back to Egypt to deliver the children of Israel out of Egypt. He argues with God, telling God he was slow of speech, but God was relentless. It was Moses’ destiny to return as the deliverer of the Israelites. 

It would not be an easy task. The Israelites would reject him because they were content in Egypt. But the future promised seed could not be born in Egypt; he had to be born in the Israelites’ homeland. The Israelites would have to return to their promised land to fulfill the promise of God. The promised seed would be born years later in Bethlehem of Judah.

Nine plagues including death would hit the Egyptians, but the promise that God gave in Genesis 15:13-14 said, “And he said unto Abram [later called Abraham] Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, [Egypt] and shall serve them and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.”

This scripture was fulfilled after the last plague of death hit Egypt. The Egyptians gave them gold, silver and everything needed to return home. They wanted them gone from Egypt so the plagues would stop. Pharaoh changed his mind after the Israelites departed and chased them to destroy them. But God opened the Red Sea and caused them to cross on dry land. Then when the Egyptians entered the path God let the waters fall and swallowed up the Israelites’ afflicters, killing them all. The promised seed was safe, but there was a rough road ahead.

Tomorrow we will see how the wilderness would test the Israelites.
