DO YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS?

In Psalms 91:11-12 we read a beautiful promise: “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

All three of the great western religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam accept their existence. Angels are mentioned more than 300 times in Sacred Scripture. God designed angels to respond to His work. They are listening to your words. Put them to work by speaking the Word of God to better able you to do God’s will. When you start believing in the ministry of angels, you will have more manifestations of their ministry. Just believe the word of God and believe for the supernatural ministry to come as you need it.

How many of us, especially in the last few months, in moments when life has seemed most frightening or painful or bewildering, have heard a whisper, felt an invisible hand on our shoulder, been helped by a stranger? At times, when we have felt abandoned and alone, how many of us have been touched by a mysterious, unexplainable encounter that has given us the courage and the strength we needed to go on. Why is it necessary to explain such occurrences? Why wouldn’t a loving God intimately concerned with His children, send angels and humans to do His work?

My mother started collecting angels over 50 years ago. She began to seriously think of angels as being more than little pretty statues. She gathered material and did several programs on angels. She will be 102 years old on May 13 and since she lives in Georgia and we are still under “stay in place” here in New Mexico, I will not be able to be there this year to celebrate her birthday. So many things have happened since she started studying about angels. Terrorist attacks on American soil and subsequent wars have ended our peaceful complacency, perhaps forever. Floods, tornados and the appearance of new and deadly diseases add to this end. COVID-19 Virus has us all thinking what will our new normal look like in the future. As Christians, we need not fear the future, for we have God’s hand to hold. We know God is with us all the way. He has given us everything we need – Peace, hope and comfort abide in His arms, and in the arms of angels.

No matter what episodes are hidden in our murky future, there is no need for fear. For we have today, those rich and precious hours laden with potential. One hug (or for now one wave), one whispered prayer, one blessing and even one small act of love can transform the world. God and his angels will help us do it. All we must do is say “YES”.

Father, we praise you for the gift of unity that the Spirit creates in our relationships. You place others perfectly in our lives and inspire us as Christians to work together with the gifts that we have been blessed with. Help us to say yes to you and your angels.

Amen

UPDATE FOR FOOD MINISTRY
St John’s Food Ministry will be providing an evening meal at Hopeworks on Tuesday April 28 at Hopeworks. Chef Tim and his crew will prepare a hot, homecooked meal for over150 people, and St. John’s “Go-phers” will drive the food to their mission on 3rd Street in Albuquerque.

The distribution of this food will be handled by staff at Hopeworks. St John’s staff will only prepare and deliver it. The Food Ministry will also provide hot, homecooked dinner for 30 people at Casa Esperanza on Thursday, April 24 and Thursday, April 30. We are able to fund this ministry through gracious gifts from Sunday school classes, individual donations from the congregation, and through a specific gift given to St John’s for use in our community and congregation for those in need. If you would like more information on this or other food ministry outreach meals contact Tim Nuzum at tnuzum@stjohns-abq.org or Kelly Giese @ kellyg@stjohns-abq.org .
MUSIC FROM ST. JOHN'S
As part of our outreach during this unsettling time, the Music Ministry has launched “Music From St. John’s,” a series of video performances by local musicians. This is an effort to continue to provide beautiful music to our congregation and community, and also to provide work to local musicians who have been severely affected by cancelations. New videos will appear daily for the foreseeable future, and they are being created by Shea Perry. We hope you’ll enjoy and share the videos, and also consider making a donation to the New Mexico Musicians Relief Fund. The easiest way to view the videos is to go to the St. John’s Music Ministries Facebook page. Check back daily!
