Assistance League of Diablo Valley Receives Bay Area Make It Better Award

Assistance League of Diablo Valley is a nonprofit, member volunteer organization dedicated to improving lives in our community through its 16 hands-on programs. In November, the chapter was acknowledged at the Make It Better Foundation’s first Bay Area Philanthropy Awards, which were presented by the Marin Community Foundation. The arduous criteria included excellence, scalability, efficiency, leadership and effectiveness. The grant included a $10,000 cash award as well as scholarships to an executive education program on nonprofit management at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Since 1967, Assistance League of Diablo Valley member volunteers have improved the lives of those in our community who are vulnerable. The prestigious Make It Better Award will help offset financial challenges that the philanthropic community indefatigably faces. To learn more, please visit this website: assistanceleague.org/diablo-valley.

Sweet Thursday presents Saru Jayaraman: One Fair Wage
Wednesday, March 3, 2022, 7:00 - 8:30 PM | Don Tatzin Community Hall
Register here.

Join activist and author Saru Jayaraman, Director of the Food Labor Research Center at UC Berkeley, to learn about underpaid US workers.
The federal tipped minimum wage since 1991 (yes, that is thirty years) has been $2.13 per hour. Prior to COVID, six million people worked in this system, meaning when the pandemic hit, tons of them lost their jobs and the varied security that came with them. In Jayaraman’s newest book, she “shines a light on these workers, illustrating how the people left out of the fight for a fair minimum wage are society’s most marginalized."

Note that all attendees will need to show proof of vaccination and to wear a mask during the program. This program is presented by the Friends of the Lafayette Library.
