Presenter's Bio

Dodie Daniels, obtained her Master of Arts in Education from Ashford University. She is the Long Island Regional Coordinator with Parent to Parent of NYS, serving Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Parent to Parent of NYS (parenttoparentnys.org) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1994 to support and connect families of individuals with special needs. This connection reduces isolation and empowers those who care for people with developmental disabilities or special healthcare needs to navigate and influence service systems and make informed decisions.

Dodie is always willing to speak with parents and individuals in need. In her current position for over 6 years as a support parent volunteer, she uses her experience as a mom of two young adults with Autism to provide support, guidance and information. Prior to her Parent to Parent NYS role she worked with PopEarth, a non-profit organization Om Holistic Center for Autism & Developmental Disorders.

Workshop Presentation Summary

Dodie will discuss how creating a Healthcare Notebook will help organize your information in one central location. These notebooks are valuable in providing medical personnel with vital information and helping individuals and/or their families take an active role in their medical care.

The objective of this presentation is to gain a better understanding of:

  1. How to create a healthcare history journal,
  2. How to use a Healthcare Notebook to assist you in advocating for supports in the medical service systems, and
  3. How contrast and compare treatment plans and other information for caregivers, doctors, therapists, and others who work with you.
