Washington & Swanton: Still Waiting for ZBA Action

The next meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for the 40B development at the corner of Washington Street and Swanton Street is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 18, at 7 PM in the Lower-Level Waterfield Room of Winchester Town Hall.

The hearing is expected to cover the independent consultant's design review report, along with final updates on traffic, stormwater mitigation, and engineering. The design includes 16 affordable units and 4 totally handicap accessible units. Learn more and review documents here!

The ZBA will base its final vote on the written record. Thus, if you can't make it to this in-person meeting, please consider reaching out asynchronously with your support to ZBA admin assistant, Carla McGrath at cmcgrath@winchester.us.

Please note that the meeting is in-person only. It will not be covered by WinCAM.

160 Forest St is Moving Forward

160 Forest is a single family dwelling willed to the town in 2020 that the

Affordable Housing Trust has been working to convert to a unit of affordable housing.

The Fall Town Meeting warrant overwhelmingly supported two articles regarding the property at 160 Forest Street:

  • Article 28 authorizes $350,000 in Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding
  • ✔️ Approved 130 to 20
  • Article 29 transfers the care, custody, control, and ownership of the 160 Forest St property to the Affordable Housing Trust (AHT)
  • ✔️ Approved 119 to 23

Thank you to all those who presented and spoke on various aspects of 160 Forest St, with a special shout out to Kris Galletta from the Affordable Housing Trust who presented Article 29 and expertly and efficiently fielded questions from Town Meeting Members. The next steps in AHT’s plan are to renovate it to current standards then sell it to a first-time homebuyer.
